SLGA007 vs white birch

If you could only have one of these two watches which one would you pick?

That’s a tough one. I think I’m going with the SLGA007 though. However the White Birch is beautiful. Something about the wave pattern and gold I like at the moment.

Ask me tomorrow I’ll probably go the other way and say the white birch, it’s a super close call for me.

I have my eye on the SLGA007 myself. Soft spot for blue. Especially this one.

The spring drive movement with the power reserve indicator on the back swings this one to the 007

Blue with gold for me. Mostly because I already have a "silver blizzard" dial (SBGE249).

If the question is based purely on the dial, I prefer the 007. I've seen both of these watches in the flesh and I've never seen a more beautiful dial than on the 007. Yes, I said it. I found the White Birch a little too silvery and glitzy, if that makes sense.

Now, there are other factors, primarily the movement, Spring Drive vs. automatic. Some guys love the technology behind the SD, but I could see why others would want to stick to a more traditional movement, albeit an excellent modern version.

Comes down to blue v silver. And whether you feel strongly over one movement over the other.

I am yet to see the blue in the flesh. But limited over general production. And from all reports it’s a beautiful blue. How would each watch look in your collection?

Yes, but it's not just the colors that are different. The textures are also unique to each dial. The White Birch is textured vertically, like, well, birch trees. The 007 has a more horizontal, tighter texture that shimmers and moves in the light, like little bouncing waves. I actually did a couple of double-takes when looking at it. The dial is incredible.

My photo doesn't really show what I'm talking about, but here's a video from someone on YouTube that gives a better idea, but certainly doesn't capture the full effect because of the overly harsh lighting.

That's the one I was getting ready to post. Man this one looks better in the flesh than it did in the promo shots. A real stunner!

Seen the 007 at the AD. Couldn't stop looking at it. They had to ask for it back! After I placed a deposit on it to hold for me!.

I've had the SLGH005 for a week and a half now. As much as I love it, I think I'm planning to move it to fund the SLGA007. I much prefer the Spring Drive movement. I also prefer darker colored dials generally. The Series 9 case and bracelet are so incredibly nice on the wrist. I just lucked out and was able to place a deposit with a boutique for the SLGA007 after someone just cancelled their reservation. I think there's still hope out there for the SLGA007 if you phone around.

A007 over the WB. WB’s new escapement has some issues with accuracies, I think GS is still fine tuning it. Obviously some were upset with this and felt like they are lab rats, but nothing can simulate real world use.

But A007 on the other hand, I wouldn’t imagine any movement issues. It’s a safer bet with a versatile and popular blue colored dial, series 9 design, and limited too if that’s your thing.

I have a WB - absolutely in love with it - but will 100% be getting a Suwa as well -

an impossible proposition to not have both..

the 9SA5 and the 9RA2 are next level!

If the SLGA007 is anything like the SBGY007 dial - then it's no contest.

It is absolutely stunning in natural light.

Case design is identical for both, right? The new case is awesome. Thinner, better lug profile, awesome finishing with perfect mix of satin and polished surfaces.

Between the two, I prefer the dial on the WB. That blued seconds hand with the silver and white motif is spectacular. Date wheel integration is better too, due to light-colored dial background.

But for movement, I like the SLGA007 new 5 day springdrive. I love that power reserve on the back side. SO useful. Plus, it looks amazing.

The perfect grand seiko for me would be the new case, with the 5 day spring drive, using the classic white Snowflake dial and blue seconds hand. I would buy that instantly. Even if the bracelet still lacks a microadjust. )At least the new bracelet is more substantial and has bigger screws, a great move from previous generations.)

Can I assume you have not seen the 007 in person?

I've seen them side-by-side, and the 007 is on a different level. Yes, the WB is very nice, although a little too glitzy and Vegas-y for my liking. The 007 is mesmerizing.

You have too many posts not to believe your words. Which makes me so anxious waiting for my SLGA007. A couple of months’ waiting before those of us who haven’t seen the watch can finally feel it. *

Well, some boutiques have display examples, in the U.S. anyway. Not sure about Europe.

Has anyone seen a pic of the SLGA007 on strap? I love the way the “Winter” looks on a strap, and I don’t see any reason why this case wouldn’t work too.

I’ve almost pulled the trigger on the white birch in the past but never gotten over the line. I picked a SLGA007 up yesterday after falling instantly in love with it. The dial speaks for itself but that gold second hand which is just a beautiful golden needle sweeping across the dial pried the card out of my wallet.

Both!

If I really had to choose it would be the SLGH005 in a heartbeat. The dial plays with the light unlike anything I’ve seen before and is complemented perfectly with the heat blued second hand. Not to mention the hi beat movement is on another level.
