You probably did just fine. Possibly very well indeed. The 5645-7010 is about the most common vintage GS out there, but a decent one would still be priced around $1k. It really depends on what work needs doing and if any parts are needed. Is the caseback gold medallion in good shape? How about the crystal? Case looks good, and even if the dial is very water damaged, you can just consider it wabi-sabi and enjoy that aspect of owning a vintage Japanese watch.

Medallion is missing, probably will replace crystal. And quickest date is not working.

Case looks good, movement looks clean. The dial is what it is. Any pics of the rear?

Quickset often isn't working on the 56; not a huge deal, and you can buy the part (aftermarket) that breaks if you want to. Missing medallion knocks something off the price...maybe $200...and the correct crystal may be hard to find but will turn up on eBay sooner or later. Overall, I'd say you got about maybe $500 worth of watch there.
