£4000 enjoyment tax in 6 years

So for accounting and reminiscence reasons I did a list. Just figured out my ownership path and money spent along the way. Thought I'd share:

Since I discovered a passion for Swiss watches - but couldn't tell you a thing about them (2010) until now (2016) I've flipped and traded my way through every one that evolved my interest.

Needless to say the trades often involved a financial burden and I hardly ever did a trade where I profited... But - in 6 years I have experienced and enjoyed owning all of these magnificent watches with just a " loss" of £4000.

Very interesting read. I bet the Rolexes losses were minimal? Which one did you enjoy the most?

I think this is the norm, not the exception. If you're happy with your choice, that's all that matters.

Wow seems like a lot of money wasted to me. But if you think you got good value that is all that matters.

Not to me. Enjoyed 19 different (mostly) watches over 6 years, not too bad IMO

Good list and lots of experience. So which were your favourites and what do you currently have? Seems a shame for us all not to benefit in your £4k worth of research.

Good for you!! That's cheap entertainment as far as hobbies go.
L667 per year. Try competitive shooting or buy a hunting dog. Your watch hobby will look very reasonable!

that comes to roughly $6,000.00 USD over four years or -$1,500.00 USD per year in flipping losses/expenditures.

With that kind of turn over, this turns out as not too bad a figure in some respect. The main thing as somebody has already picked up, you enjoyed it all!

understandable. i have a core of my collection that remains fairly static, but i've probably flipped at least 30 watches in the last 10 years. shoot, i've almost been through as many cars. LOL

And why not, you could've blown £4K easy at the casino or bought a new (average) car and lost that by driving it off the forecourt - enjoy and keep buying and selling 👍🏼

Thats not bad considering it was 6 years and so many watches

I bought a sub date new from an AD for 5400 and sold it 6 months later for 4350

Only to then rebuy a new sub 12 months after that... Still got the second sub (do not think i will sell this... ever)

With that many flips you did very well with that minimal a cost. You must have a good source for preowned watches!

So what are your experiences with them and what you own now. Looking back any pieces you regretted buying or selling?

Count me as another member interested in which ones you still have and why. Also, why did you flip the ones you no longer own? I think you have done well.

Subscribed. I too would love to hear the war stories of your watch journey.

Given the number of watches you've gone through, I think you've done well too!

I spend that on cell phone bills tv and internet every 2 years and I am not able to wear any of it :)

This shows that this hoppy is not as expensive as one may think.

Less than £2 a day.

Pretty good, a cup of coffee a day.
