Anybody seen "Flags of our Fathers"?

Hi guys,

Clint Eastwood's latest effort is about to be released all over NZ this Thursday. Flags of our Fathers is supposed to be a good movie. Anybody seen it? Any reviews and comments welcome.

Padi...your cue, my friend!!

Thanks - JJ

It looks good. Kinda of like a South Pacific Theater version of Saving Private Ryan

Well JJ watched last night after the trick or treaters and IMO sooner have the second round of Hallo-weenies ringing the bell. "Flags of Our Fathers"IMHO was an bloody awful movie. Maybe my expectations were too high but honestly it would have been best to include a few paraphrases from the end of the movie to the end of the thirty-two second movie trailer and call it done and finished.

The cinematography was lousy; the war scenes not comparable to even the worst television war movie. I was not expecting to be entertained. I was looking for a movie that might possibly educate me and draw me into the emotions of the time. The point was made early on the photograph was untruthful but was enough to change the minds of the people that they were actually winning the war. The back and forth time lapses did nothing to help draw the audience in and made it difficult to keep track of who was who. I failed to make more than a single connection. At one point I was able to identify with the Sergeant, then he was killed, only later to be shown swimming on the bleeding beach WTF.

Come on Clint - I wouldn't even let my name be associated with such a crap movie. I wish I could get back that two hours of my life I wasted watching this movie. I am generally easily drawn into a movie and there are very few I don't like. This was one of them. I have never written a really bad movie review before but was not inspired by this film at all.

This movie is perfect for a documentary on the say the history channel...but for an Eastwood film... The only two things it has going for itself is how historically accurate it is, and it is an interesting subject, but this does not make the movie good. Sure Eastwood did a good job with a script perfect for a documentary, it is still not a great movie though. Pure and simply, for Eastwood's standards this film is not a success, and has no chance at winning the Oscar, when comparing The Departed, The Last King of Scotland, or Little Miss Sunshine. Advice for Clint,IMO Documentaries don't make good films. for me 3/10
