I would think the new power reserve would be awesome if the sub were to get the new movement. Unless there’s a huge aesthetic improvement I don’t see many people trying “upgrade” their current sub

I love the newer lugs. Makes the watch look more substantial without increasing the girth. At times even my SD43, which I love, looks really big.

I don't either. I see no visual difference, and those who say the GMT lugs are much more slimmed down must be seeing things I don't see.

I still prefer the 'old' and tested 31×× movements over the new 'improved' 32××.

If you like the current Sub, get it.
None of us have any idea of: 1. When Rolex will release a new Sub. Could be next year. Or in five or ten years. 2. What changes a new Sub will have besides the 32x movement. 3. When you’ll ever be able to actually get one from an AD. There is always a better car/tv/stereo/woman/watch/ coming down the line. It’s crazy to wait and wait and wait. |

Yeah I agree with you Grady. As nice as the extra 22 hours may be, it doesn’t make much difference when one where’s it on the daily. Like another poster said the real changes will be aesthetics. If the current version songs to you and you have a chance to grab it from your AD then go and enjoy your new watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Submariner with new movement
This is what I see when I look at the maxi case subs...they really need to do something about the wide lugs.
Hopefully in the next release they return them to the more classic proportions Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

True and I get why some don’t like it. But it doesn’t look that square on the wrist, thought. |

The extended PR can be nice if the watch is worn in a rotation.

The Datejust 41 was my first Rolex. The 114060 is my second. The 72-hr reserve is useful for the DJ because I'm less likely to have to set the date. For the Sub the power reserve doesn't matter as much because without the date, there's no AM or PM, so setting the time is quick.

New doesn't always mean better. I speak from experience from my piece with the 3186 movement.

The 3135 movement is one of the best Rolex movement. Robust, reliable and accurate. Go ask a watchmaker. :) http://blog.watchdoctor.biz/2018/02/...e-medal-stand/ |

Meh.....if you don't pull the trigger now, expect the new Sub to be hard to impossible to get AND expect the old Sub to go up in price. You can see how hard the new GMT's have been to get...and I think the Sub is even more commonplace and popular among Rolex people.
I do not need the added power reserve.....so even though an updated movement is nice, per se......it's a moot point if you don't even utilize the 48 to 72 hour increase. |

If you have a chance to pick one up right now, do it.
You most likely wont be able to tell the difference between the new and old movement. Especially if you wear it often. I believe they may extend the power reserve on the new one. |

On a simple no date watch a longer power reserve (imo) is unimportant. It takes no time at all to set the time.
So I say get the watch. Enjoy it and forget about the new movement. The current one is an absolute beast. In fact, I have read lengthy posts on here comparing the new and the older movement and the older one actually came out on top. |

Buy it, wear it, forget about the "new movement" hype.

Likewise Bas new is not always better and in the real wold a average of 48 hours power reserve is perfectly adequate. As Rolex still has that little round thing called a winding crown thats for winding a watch when needed.

My 16610 LN, purchased in November of 2019, is currently running 10 seconds slow per month. I doubt if a "new movement" can equal or exceed that level of accuracy. I prefer the current "chunky" lugs but that is a matter of taste. In short, if you like the watch buy it rather than dithering over small changes that may or may not occur.

I would say grab it, either ways when the new Sub is released it will be near impossible to acquire. Getting this one would prolly make it easier for you to get the new one if you wanted to upgrade. As far as slimmer lugs, you should prolly also consider the 14060......

I would not also wait because you end up losing on both ends so preferably go for the readily available one instead.

If you have the chance to get it now then a bird in hand is always better...
Equally, an improved power reserve for a non date watch seems a little superfluous as they are quick to set and wind. |

If you are in your twenties then I would say wait and see what Rolex has to offer. I don't see the hurt in waiting especially in this economy and with Rolex prices coming down on the 2nd hand market.

Buy the watch, wear and enjoy. Wait to see what happens with the new releases and decide if you want a change when a new Submariner shows up.

You hallucinate and see a photoshopped Sub? No wonder you don't like it. Might want to get that checked out.
