"Irrational Exuberance" to quote Alan Greenspan. That pretty much sums it up for watches and the world in general imho. Cheers!

If it’s a bubble, what would the figurative prick be that causes it to burst? Worldwide economy seems to be doing OK, so I can’t see a cause of any relaxation in the increasing demand.

Under the textbook Law of Supply and Demand, this would be classified as a "Market Shortage" that has resulted in "Price Gouging."

In line with that answer, the textbook solution to create "Market Equilibrium" is either for the manufacturer to increase supply to meet demand or to increase prices to choke demand e.g., consider how many retailers would have DaytonaC inventory if Rolex increased MSRP to $20K, the price at which all grey dealers have a few available.
