Can and AD charge anything they want for a SS Daytona?

And the correct answer is... Y E S! The story below actually happend to me, and I suppose that I was so pissed that I didnt even bother to post it! Well, find below a story, and take a lesson from it! Enjoy!

Story starting several years ago.....So I am graduating PSU, and land a job in DC which makes me able to purchase my first Rolex! I had wanted a Sub for some time, so what better occasion? I actually settle for a Y GMT Pepsi, as their last Sub sold as I was dealing on it. (A close friend actually got it, then I bought it and sold it on here- another story for another time!) So I purchase the GMT, and never take delivery- I have the AD hold it until I make it back to PA from my job in DC. About two months of being a new watchless Rolex owner, the AD calls, and tells me they got a F Sub in, in short, I trade the GMT to it, and I get a fair deal of like 15-18% off msrp right before a price hike. All is well, and I even get a 16610LV at msrp when they were just comming out and hard to acquire.

So things are good, the subs are awesome, and I inquire about a SS Daytona. My name is placed on an illusive list, and to my surprise, -after some phone calls begging, and about two years- I get my first Daytona call! Its here, and it is BLACK!!! Do I want it? Ummmmm, YEA!!!!!!!!!!! So I tell them to charge it and ship that puppy to VA, to save tax, and the deal is done! Or so I think it is...

I am thrilled, of course. I am calling friends and my g/f is very happy for me. Part of me wanted to pay tax and just drive up and pick it up right that moment! Then a friend asks, did you beat the price increase? I was like YEA... ummm, maybe, ummmmm..... I dont know! Heck, I dont even know what the hell I paid, lol! So I give a call to the AD.

I explain that I was so excited, that I forgot to ask if I beat the suspected price increase.... and the sales person is like, well.... I dont know. I explained it didnt really matter, as I was just wondering. They hesitate, and I suspect they are just clueless to what I am asking. So I ask what my total is.... and they come back and state- "Your total is.......$11,500 for the two, read:two, 2, duece, double, 1+1, etc..... so I joke and am like, WOW, thats a heck of a deal for TWO DAYTONAS! They are like, oh no, thats the black Daytona and a house watch! ****Black clounds enter, thunder strikes, trees sway---Houston, We Have a Problem!!!****

You can see what they did. Dirty birds. Sell me a 7500 watch, slip in a junk $300 house crapper, and stick it to me. It took me having to call the owner at HOME, who KNEW about the deal, and literally telling him off to get this mess straightened out!!! MANY MANY MANY F bombs were dropping!! My girl was looking at me like I was going to choke the owner through the phone! I will never forget, he is like, hey I have treated you well in the past, and I even gave you my home phone number..... ummmm, well, in that case, sure- charge whatever you want! Yea right!

That was the last time I dealt with those clowns! So can an AD charge what they want, I say Y E S!!! In this case, I didnt ask, and they didnt tell- they just DID what THEY wanted!

Its kinda funny to think about it now, and I actually enjoy telling the story, although I was quite upset at the time. They reversed the charges, and I didnt get the watch, but I learned a great lesson! LOL!

Yea, if you know what your spending up front, thats one thing.... Since then I got two white ones at MSRP- but recently sold to fund a new home. The hunt for a black one continues....

Enjoy yours, they are awesome! Wear in good helth!

It's unethical to charge you without disclosing how much they were going to do that and threw another piece of junk in. That is just not the way to treat anyone and especially an old customer.

WTF!!! I would of drove over to the AD and kicked their a**es after that incident. Very unethical, although I would of asked what the total bill/charges were at the time the deal was sealed.

The moral of the story is to keep cool even though it is a Rolex? A lot of times it is easier said than done and the ADs will then capitalise on this to mark up the price above MSRP.

Hindsight is 20/20... and while I should have asked the price, I assumed... I know, I know ASS-U-ME,....that it would be msrp one way or another!

If your on the waitlist and especially you waited for 2+ yrs for the call then the AD should not be allowed to charge you over MSRP. If the story was you weren't on the waitlist and he sold to any regular walk in customer then YES an AD can charge over MSRP...

Just one of those things... I started buying there in my early 20s and they lost a good customer by acting poorly. Their loss...

Terrible, I thought it was all the flippers that were giving the Daytona the perceived price increase for SS.

In my experience, I'm fairly sure Rolex would take an extremely dim view of charging over the odds for a Daytona. If it's new, it should be sold at the price that they specify, if it's been bought privately, then the AD can charge what they want. I feel sorry for the OP, that was daylight robbery.
