This may be the best entry into Rolex at the minute under $10k

It's Friday afternoon, I got a bit bored, so went back to playing the age old game of what would be the best way to get into Rolex for under $10k USD.

My vote goes to Datejust 41 lumed Arabic. Worn by Federer at Wimbledone 2009.

This seriously is an underrated piece in my view, it has quite a bit going for it, such as worn by Roger at Wimbledon final, a really gorgeous sunburst silver dial and interesting lumed numerals in purple.

It can be had for $9000 USD and I personally would take it over any of the current Datejust 41 available for sale.

Have you bought one??

If it’s such a great purchase.

It looks ok but I prefer my 41 smooth bezel, white dial with Romans.

Who has one in Sydney for 9k?
I'm sorry but I should clarify it is $10k USD. I have not bought one because I cannot accomodate it as I've currently reduced my collection to 1 watch that I will wear for ever.

Why are you discussing a $10k best buy Rolex when flexing that one?

Why jump on the guy for positing his view on the watch?

Seems like you could get a pretty decent sub or sub date for under 10. That’s probably where I would start.

Totally subjective, but I never liked the orientation of the numbered hours indices. This dislike is not isolated to Rolex.

I just asked questions based on a random question.

Not jumping on anyone.

There are thousands of watches that we all like as individuals.

Why don’t we all start a thread on the one we think is a best buy?

You can add to this if you like.

My one would be an IWC 5001-07 You can pick one up for around US7.5k.

Not my picture.

I like the blue hands and the clear case back showing the cool rotor.

I also like the way the sub dials don’t cut out any markers or numbers.

You can ask me why I haven’t bought one and I won’t be offended.

That IWC is stunning!

A great entry into Rolex professional models is, in my opinion, the 126900 Airking. Amazing watch for around $8000 including tax.

That is a great DJ

Reminds of the Platinum DD from that same era with the wave dial and Arabic numbers. Total banger.

I’d spend that sort of money on a submariner

Personally, I don’t think any Sub you can get under 10k would be more interesting than this DJ

Every watch I have in rotation is under $10k:
BLRO- bought in 2018 when MSRP was $9,250
Exp 1
OP Turquoise

Totally subjective, but I clearly like them all for under $10k

Ok, I think I agree.

A re-search reveals there indeed are a few ceramic submariners under $10k USD and that would be my pick.

The datejust is still a solid choice, but a black submariner is about as "traditional and classic" a way there is to get into Rolex and can certainly last you a lifetime if you want it to be.

In fact, I found a 116610 for under $10k.

So many great options and no wrong answer. My vote goes to:

- Air-King 126900
- Submariner 14060
- Explorer 214270

I recently sold my 116334 factory rhodium diamond dial for $9,500 so I'd say that's the best bang for under $10k

That is a DateJust II, not a 41.

Different strokes, I'd rather not wear a watch at all than have a DJ2.

I think the clear winner here is the OP Celebration 41.
