1861 how to sync seconds
Tried backwind on this movement but I can’t get the second hand to stop
It’s not essential but I can’t understand why I can’t get it to stop It’s a new FOIS and therefore 1861 movement |

You have to turn it backwards with a little finesse and sensitivity (maybe 1/8-1/4 turn) and you'll see the second hand stop (more like bound back and forward little by little). I dun usually need it to be that accurate so I avoid this but that's the official way to hack the movement.

Are you doing this with little or no power reserve?

By backwind you mean turning opposite of winding the watch? The crown should be pulled out first. Try adjusting the time backwards and observe the seconds hand. You will see it stop. It’s a matter of trial and error before feeling how much back pressure is needed to stop the seconds hand.
Used to do it when I first got my Speedmaster. Now I just wind the watch a few seconds before my reference time and that is much easier for me to sync. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Try this, the short version of all the above: pull the crown out, apply a light pressure on the crown while at the same time turn the crown slightly counter clock wise. On my Speedy, “slightly” is only about one or two milimeter of crown movement (CCW).
Don’t put too much pressure, if you put too much pressure the seconds hand will start move backward. |
