Great story. That the watch survived comes as no surprise, but finding it (& the method employed to do so) is the amazing thing

So if he paid $85 an hour for the dredge and found it 14 months later would it not have been cheaper to buy a new TT Blue Sub?

Cool story though.

If this were my watch I think I would write to Rolex and tell them the story.
I wouldn't be surprised if they offered to trade a new Sub for the old one. It would make for a great story for Rolex.

There's a broken pin in that bracelet?

If anyone is up near Soddy Daisy, TN on Chicamauga Lake, my Ref. 1016 Explorer rests in the rocks beneath 75' of murkiness since the summer of 1987. I'll give you $1000 cash for it's return...

If it is rust then its not surprising considering where and how long the watch has been in salty water. Daft i know but it seems a shame to restore it to a better condition really, leaving it it in that condition just backs up the good story really !

Side note based on your comment. His Insurance company paid out and replaced this watch with a new 2 tone sub. After this one was recovered the customer called the insurance company to remain on their good side to inform them of the find. They told him the recovery would fall under a Salvage law and was legally owned at that point by the dredging company. If they chose to sell it back to him for 1000.00 it was no business of theres.
So He got a BNIB replacement and his original all legal!

Cool story though.
I asked about that and the dredge only worked the area on a few occasions over the year. I think Steve said they spents maybe 6 or 8 hours in total over the 14 months, so the total cost of recovery was quite low
