116500 vs. ALS Datograph?
I realize this question is ridiculous, but after reading the recent HODINKEE article, curious on the forum’s sentiments...if you only had 1 chronograph as your daily wear, which would you choose?

As your only chrono, not your only watch, right?
ALS for sure

Daily wearer probably the Daytona, as it's built with tank like features for the everyday bumps and knocks. I don't know that much about ALS but I am assuming it's more fragile, and more expensive to repair if it did get damaged.

Kinda hard to compare since one is a tool chrono and other is a dress chrono.
For daily wear, definitely the Daytona, for beauty, the ALS. |

Not even in the same league. Or even the same stratosphere. ALS all day and they are also very well built and can handle daily wear.

Daytona for me. Beautiful, durable, quick and reasonably inexpensive to service

I agree this is a ridiculous question, but if I can only have 1 chronograph, it will be the new 5370p blue.

as the daily = Daytona
The "better" watch is ALS from movement pov. But the datograph is big thick watch. built like a tank if you look at the movement, but unfortunately i would think delicate and i don't even thinks there's WR |

Lange by far, and I have the D500, but their retail prices tell the story of these watches.

Lange and it's not really close.

The ALS is in a completely different league, not even a question here. Lange all day.

Only watch, only chrono = Daytona.
But if ballin' and have a garage to display multiple exotic cars (as an analogy), then ALS becomes the additional showcase of a nice collection. |

Both is the best answer here :) If you have either of these, it’s very difficult to be a “one watch guy”. So I vote to call it a moot discussion :)

I traded my DaytonaC for RG Datograph, while I loved the Datograph it was not sitting well on my wrist so I sold it. Wish I’d kept the Daytona.. so agree when they say both. Daytona to wear and Datograph to admire.

Both great watches. I have the DaytonaC now and I had the original 39mm Dato in platinum a couple of years ago. As a daily wearer, the Daytona is the better option (on bracelet, slimmer, ceramic bezel, etc.)
I’m not going to mention all the positives about the Dato but here are the downsides for me: 1. Very top heavy being platinum on strap and dimensions of 39mm x 12.9mm thick. I love heavy watches but this is the most unbalanced watch that I owned. 2. Not as versatile being on leather. I live in a very hot climate so not a huge fan of straps. 3. Langes are soft on the secondary market. You always hear people loving Lange but very few will buy them. Definitely need to buy with this in mind. |

So, if you purchase both at retail price, from your local AD, one of them will net you a really nice profit, should you decide to sell .........the other, should you decide to sell, well, let's just say you can tell everybody that you have this really beautiful watch, haute horology but, you will wish you had bought a Daytona when you see the bath you're going to take!!

even without considering the movement and finish, the obvious choice would still be Datograph because of the date function
