Rolex for 15-year-old boy

What Rolex would be ideal for a 15-year-old boy?

1.Oyster Perpetual 36mm

2.Explorer 114270 36mm

3.Datejust 36mm

Any other ideas?

He's a responsible guy who appreciates the world of watches and knows the value of a Rolex. I don't expect to be given any kind of morality, behavior or how to educate young people. Thank you

114060! Don’t buy just for now, something to grow into as well.

i was planning on give my son my AirKing in a few years . but end of day, only if he appreciates for what it is.

If he does not care for it... I guess his time keeper is his iPhone. LOL.

I don’t think it makes sense to give a Rolex to a 15-year old.

A 15 year old doesn’t understand the value of a Rolex and he would be a target for robbery or theft at school.

I have a brand new Submariner in the safe for my 13-yr old son, but will give it to him when he graduates.

A Citizen would be my pick. IMO no 15 year old needs a Rolex for a multitude of reasons. YMMV.

My Mom bought me a Seiko Superior 5 Automatic when I went to college. I wore that thing for 20 years straight, by then it was loosing 5 minutes a day, but it always worked.

It taught me to love mechanical watches. Made me lust for a Rolex. Now I have one.

The Seiko Sup5 is a terrific watch for $120 or so. If he loses it, no biggie.

But since you asked, DJ41, steel, no flutes.

My brothers both had Rolexes at 14. One still has that watch and he's worn it daily for 30 years. The other sold his after 10 years of use to upgrade.

If your son is mature and respectful I see no problem. I'd go Explorer 1 of those 3 but the newer 214270. If his wrist is small now then he will grow into it.

My neighbor gave their 16 year old son a Lambo for birthday so go for it. Datejust 36 is a good choice!

Explorer, OP, or maybe an airking.

Something in the Tudor line could be cool too.

SKX007 now and if that seems to work move up to a Sub when a big occasion (graduation?) comes around. The SKX is a hell of a watch for the money.

How is he prepared to defend himself when he is surrounded by a group of bullies and they beat him into the ground and take the watch off his wrist? Obviously you haven't thought things through very well.

I had one at that age. I worked hard to buy it used from my grandfather. This was back in the mid 80's. No one at school knew what it was.

Is this a joke or a real question? No 15 year old needs to be wearing a Rolex. They older, the more appreciative they will be of such valuable gift. Not to mention the danger of becoming the target of theft/violence.

No social media back then. Even 5 year olds know what a Rolex is in 2020. The OP is just asking for trouble for his son, this nonsense won't end well. Unless he just plans to wear it around the house and not in public. An adult unemployed or desperate for money would knock a 15 year old over like a bowling pin and easily take the watch.

Fortunately I don't live in the suburbs of Detroit, Oakland, Ciudad Juárez or Tijuana. Have you ever thought that I could live in a city where crime is almost insignificant?

I'm sure there are people who live in a very different world than me where its normal for a 15 year old to have a such a watch, but it sounds crazy to me. I was a pretty damn responsible youth and I don't think I was ready for such a watch until I was in med school. Honestly, probably more like when I graduated medical school... and I didn't actually get a nice mechanical watch until late 30's.

I did have a quartz Seiko and an Iron Man in high school and thought I was pretty cool with both.

Anyway, if this is something you really want to do probably should just let him pick what he wants among a few options?

Tough question. To be honest if you didn’t give options these are the 3 I would recommend.

I think datejust would win just based on date function and ability to choose dial color. I’d probably go smooth/oyster here.
