1st Panny. Need help deciding

Looking for some feedback.

What I know I like is:

44mm or bigger

Sandwich dial

8 day (not a must)

Or automatic

Like the Luminor body.

Models I have bookmarked: 233, 562, 795.

Don’t like the logo models.

What say the experienced?

Go with the 233. You won't regret it.

By “or automatic”, I’m not sure if you would be okay with a manual. If yes, the 233 is a no-brainer among those three.

If 233 is in the list, then 233 is a brilliant first Panerai (and even last, although in my case I blame the 233 for my love of PAMs - the first has led to many).

I do like the 233, but not sure I need a GMT. What would the equivalent model be everything else being equal?

Thanks for the feedback!

127 has a domed crystal like the 233 and is equally (or even more of) an icon.

372 or 422. I've already got the 111 so I got the base dial 372 and havent taken it off since I got it last week. It might be my favorite PAM so far. I do really like my 1305 and 1024 a lot too though. Something about the subs. They're definitely a little more practical with the date function and timing bezel. Cant go wrong there either.

Think I have narrowed down to 510 or 945. That blue dial is pure sex....

The 688 for sale on here is pretty sexy too...

I watched a video a while back that said to stay away from the 42mm models. Anyone have anything to add to that??

i went with the 233 for my first pam. Love it. It gets more time on the wrist than the sub and speedy...

For my first, I would rather have something with more pure Panerai DNA and go for a 372. An older model with plexi would even be better.

44mm or bigger
8 days without GMT
Sandwich dial

Is destro configuration okay? If it’s okay look at 368...it’s one of my personal favorite

I’m very new to Panerai after wearing Rolex exclusively for 30 years, but I love my 1321.

Likes:
-Sandwich dial and lume!
-Quickset seconds return to zero, wish Rolex did this.
-Good accuracy through 72 hr power reserve. I’m spoiled by Rolex accuracy and steered clear of the 8 & 10 day movements for this reason. Personal I know.
-Quick change pin system on modern Panerai vs screws.

Happy hunting!

The 233 is the way to go here. First of all, the 233 wears unlike almost any other 44mm Luminor. I just can't explain why. It might have something to do with the fact that it was one of the first Panerai watches with an in-house movement. I'm just not sure. It has a beautiful domed crystal along with the sandwich dial you prefer. Additionally the 8 day movement in the 233 isn't the same as the 8 day P5000 movement in most of the entry level or base 8 day models. I've said this in many threads, but the P5000 movement runs really fast when fully wound. This is a known issue and Panerai has basically thrown their hands in the air. The timing will even out after a day or so, but it is not nearly as reliable as the 8 day movement in the 233. For that reason alone I'd exclude the 510 (even if you find one with the older sandwich dial).

If you are thinking of going bigger, then the 372 is the way to go. I have a 372 and 1305. It's a base layout, but has all the perks you desire. Really, the vast majority of Panerai fans are going to tell you to go with the 233 or 372. They are essentially the two most popular Luminor 1950 case models. The 233 isn't as "classic" looking as the 372 since it has a lot more complications and a busier dial because of it. At 44mm though, it is a perfect piece. If you're really stuck try on both case sizes and whichever you like more, go with either of the two models suggested.

I loved my 233, but really wanted an auto.... Went 270. Only 1mm thicker than a 233, so it wears essentially the same.

44mm
233 because of its domed sapphire; very unique; sandwich dial, can hide the GMT hand. 8 day Brushed case

47mm
368 8 days domed destro Titanium case, brown dial gold hands, power reserve indicator on back. Brushed case

372: pure DNA, engraved dial (very unique)
If you don’t need seconds or 8 day

422; if you want seconds and don’t need 8 day

Oh man, I think that 422 is money! Like the simplicity, and size! I have fairly large wrists, so think I can get away with the mass. My largest watch is a Explorer II.

So many awesome choices! Guess, there will have to be another one after the first one......

Congratulations, that looks super. Even though I have a 233, I would still love to have a 422. Great acquisition, hope you enjoy it for many years.
