GMT 1.jpeg In need of a new bracelet but can't seem to find any period correct bracelets floating around. Perhaps I'll order a new oyster bracelet from Rolex - any thoughts? |

Hi
Sorry to dig up such an old topic but I’ve been searching about 1675 inserts and the way they fade and found useful info here! I’m currently looking for a mint gilt 1675 and find questions along the way...Are all gilt 1675 supposed to originally have red back inserts? If it has a blue back one, it is necessarily a service later one? When I think about it, I would assume that a red back insert was originally all red and half of it was painted blue and the opposite on a blue back...Is that true? If that’s the case, shouldn’t the blue fade faster on a red back and the red on a blue back? It seems to be the case most of the time but I’ve seen pictures of the opposite...How can it be? Is there a tell to know for sure if a bezel has a red or blue back from front pictures? What is the correct time period for super fat font on gilt inserts? On some pictures I see the line between blue and red between the « 1 » and « 8 » of the « 18 » and sometimes it’s on the 8...Is it a period/font reference? I’m lost here this is extremely complicated Thanks! Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

For me, the super fat fonts are very fat and the 8s are almost closed in the upper opening as depicted in the attached photo.

Thanks for the pictures, the closed 8 is pretty clear now! So the super fat font would actually be posterior to the gilt era... What about my assumption that red back insert were first coated in red then half re-coated in blue? It’s the l my reason I see for a coating on the back side of the insert...If it is the case, how can a genuine red back insert be more faded on the red side than on the blue one? Color tone for PCG gilt dials
Is there a particular bezel insert tone that was prominent in the early 60s? More copper/orange red, perhaps?
Thank you! |

So to the 1675 experts here who have had many examples in hand : when we see a nice gilt 1675 with an insert faded on the red side (blue almost intact), can it be a period correct red back or is it more likely to be a service blue back?

Hi!
I’m looking for an orange faded insert for a 1675 gilt. Does this one seem ok? Thanks! Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

Looks good to me, and period-correct colour-fade for gilt, i.e. copper/denim.

Owners of these gilts are notorious for placing super fat font inserts on their watches whether correct or not.

Hi
Here is a better daylight picture of this last insert! I think it looks very nice! Any doubts? (Shown on a tudor just to give an idea, the seller doesn’t have a matching watch) Is it gilt compatible? Thx! Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

The Pepsi blue and red insert faded differently depending on the model, production era, exposure to sun etc. it is fun to collect them
