Almost Another Daytona Thread

I've been tossing this idea around lately and perhaps I'm crazy, but I'd like everyone's opinions here. I've been fortunate enough this year to acquire both a PAM111 (with vast assortment of straps) and just recently a 50th LV.

I figured having two left me some great opportunity to play around and wear what I felt my day was going to be like, but ironically as each day passes I'm falling more in love with the Rolex and it's daily usability, vast functionality, and overall personal feel. I still love my PAM, but I've really taken to the Rolex for some reason over the PAM which I once lusted for years...so I beg the question...

Since I am enjoying the Rolex so much is it worth it to sell both of these mid-level watches, throw a little cash in and move into something like a white faced SS Daytona? Being a big car guy that watch has always been alluring to me and I like the idea of taking a watch with me throughout my life (still a young guy so this would be hopeful a real long term buy) and giving it a patina that's irreplaceable.

The Daytona would be a daily watch not a safe kept hidden treasure.

I'll let the pros take it from here, what are everyone's thoughts?

Make sure you try it one first. It's not that big but it's a great looking watch.

I had a WG on a week or two ago, it is funny because pictures make you assume it's much larger than it really is. I will definitely go try one on again before making a final decision.

I think I'm potentially leaning that way for a convenience factor if thats at all possible. I just realized having two watches for me doesn't necessarily fit my taste or lifestyle. I think I like having one great thing to wear everyday and for every occasion.

I view it kind of like having two sports cars that are similar in nature. Great from a visual..but how much do you really get to enjoy each one. Plus I wore the PAM today and somehow still wanted to be wearing my anniversary.

OR

I sell the PAM for a secret wedding gift for my fiance' and pick her up a Cartier Pasha or diamondy Datejust.

Is the Daytona too nice to wear daily in your opinion?

I'm wearing my LV today and kind of thinking about that. I really may even consider selling the PAM to fund a little something for the soon to be missus as a surprise. I hate seeing her wrist naked. Then shoot for a Daytona as a nice birthday gift when I turn 30.

Absolutely not.. it's not "too nice" to wear every day.. at least INMO. I have worn mine every day since I purchased it brand new a couple years ago... I love it, I enjoy it and I'd highly reccomend (if that's what you want) to get one and wear it in good health!

you sound as though you want it, and you have the means to facilitate it... i say... do it! I dont think you will ever look back and think 'man, i wish i had kept the other two' or 'i made a bad decision buying this, i dont like it as much'.

THE DAYTONA IS FOR YOU!

You know I really don't know considering how bad I wanted one, what it represented when I bought it, where I've worn it and on the occasions I've worn it. From that perspective it makes absolutely zero sense.

I think what started this whole thought proces is that it's not like the two are on separate levels, i.e. a Daytona and Sub. Where one is significantly more reknown than the other. Since I'm a car guy I'll put it in car terms, it'd be like having a 5 series and an E-500 or 3 series and a C class...both are great on their own and certainly make a garage look great if you happen to own both, but ultimately what function (short of a collection) do they really serve when owned by the same person?

I'm more of a guy who if you can't enjoy something most of the time why leave it like money sitting on a table...and everyday I don't wear one or the other I feel that way. Maybe I'm not one for collecting watches, I just need one stellar piece at a time to create memories with.

Plus whether it's just because it's the new kid on the block or not I'm finding myself really enjoying wearing the Rolex everyday and not so much enjoying the PAM when I wear it. The Rolex is just so damn functional for every occasion, every mode of dress, and can really take the beating. PAM is a bit more like jewelry to me and requires the necessary polishing to keep it that way each week.

I've both the SS Daytona white and pam 111 , sad to say they dun really get lots of wrist time , i still prefer my AP Roo as a daily beater , not used to watch without date .

So then do you feel it's kind of wasteful having the extra pieces with the ROO getting most of the wrist time?

I have my SS black face daytona for 11 months now, I still enjoy it, no remorse. Its a great watch, I am wearing it now while i am typing my tread. Buy it and enjoy it, if money is not the issue with you.

Wouldn't do it

I have the SS Daytona, white face...IMHO it is not robust enough for daily wear. I have 3 different Omega's that I rotate, perhaps because my Planet Ocean is very robust it makes the Daytona seem fragile...Great watch, just not that robust. don;t

really tricky...I personally would not flip either of the watches you have...you will return to the PAM..having different styles of watch is what I like. So, if it were me I would wait and save for the daytona..good luck

Daytona is like buying an M3. Its the ultimate performance with luxy. Its an icon. Its built to be a great daily driver as well as hit the track on the weekend. Its what all others try to be. Its......well you get the point. I hope that sums it up for you.

Sell your 3 series and your 5 series and get the M3.
