First Oysterquartz incoming

First vintage purchase in awhile...I’ve got this 19018 incoming Friday and I am psyched for its arrival.

I feel like I should have Curtis Mayfield or The Bee Gees playing whenever I walk into a room while wearing this watch. Totally into it.

I tried one of these on at an AD in Baltimore recently and couldn’t stop thinking about it. By the time I decided to pull the trigger last week, it was gone. Found another and didn’t hesitate.

I have tried on several DD models recently, and I liked the OQ best, since it wears slightly larger (in my view, anyways) than a typical 36mm model.

I don’t see too many of these on here and I have never, ever seen one in the wild, so I am looking forward to owning something that’s a little bit unusual.

I’d love to see more pics from current owners! My own wrist shots to follow upon arrival.

I love the OQ design very much (lookalike the royal oak). I sold my 17000 and miss it so much. Manage to find the excellent condition and full set 17013 later and jump in to purchase it immediately.

Thanks, gents, and loving the SS and TT versions as well! I tried on a 17014 during a visit to Matthew Bain’s studio a few years back, and the OQ’s been in the back of my mind ever since.

Just picked this guy up from FedEx and I am very stoked. Love it on the wrist - far different feel than my SD4K, SD43, or Hulk, of course, but pretty weighty just the same!

My excitement over the arrival of my 19018 is tempered by the fact it lost ~7 minutes in 24 hours. Unacceptable, obviously.

Heading back for service, methinks.

Wow - that's a terrible way to start a new watch relationship. Take it to a Rolex dealer and have them install a new battery and case back gasket. My AD does it for free - and I have 3(!) OQ's! They are great watches and you see very few in the wild.

Right...very disappointing. You’d think that sort of discrepancy would have been caught before shipment.

Nonetheless, it’s an AD that I purchased it from, and I have a warranty, so I have confidence they’ll square it up for me.

Thanks, Trace! I am psyched about this watch, so I hope this is a bump in the road. Definitely caught at least a minor case of PM fever. Loving the weight on the wrist.

I dig it...I’ve never been bold enough to try gold before, much less diamonds. Looks great!

Update on my watch, the seller was profusely apologetic, said it may have been affected by a magnet during shipping - not sure what to make of that - and sent a priority overnight label for me to send it back to get squared away. Sent it off today, looking forward to a quick return and back on the wrist.

The OQ line has much higher tolerance for magnetism than wound-spring watches - even more than the famed Milgauss.

Thanks, that’s important info and news to me. Great to know!

I was kind of puzzled that someone who is not a watchmaker would make such a diagnosis over the phone, but I didn’t put much stock in it anyways. We’ll see when the watchmaker rings me today or tomorrow what’s happening.

Super cool, congrats!

The only thing keeping me away from them is the potential astronomical service costs...

Well, the seller advised me the watch was good to go and en route back last night. I am irritated to report that when I got my watch back today, it had lost 7 minutes during shipping...again.

I’m pretty much out of patience, so I think this one is a bust.

To recap, after the debacle with my first Oysterquartz, I sent it back to have it fixed...seller returned it, and it still didn’t function. I sent it back a second time and since I wasn’t clear on the answer regarding what was wrong, I asked them to refund my money. They did, no problem.

I still wanted an Oysterquartz. So, I bought one tonight from another outstanding seller that I have worked with before that happens to be here in Baltimore. I left the store with the watch at 6:15pm. Took this pic just now. Check the time. Not working.

I think I am giving up and looking for an automatic DD instead. Really bummed, as I like the look of this watch a lot!

Got my OQ fully serviced at RSC Tokyo a couple of years ago. It was about USD 600 IIRC, but would have been a lot more if I'd approved their suggestion to change the dial, hands and case . They did a really good job with it.
