Not surprised that people would want to buy it, it's a rare watch with that dial! Also the bracelet isn't to shabby either, that should bring in a decent amount just by itself. There's also this "prototype" Day-Date that was in Mondani's book, similar dial.
You probably have a very early Datejust, maybe a test model! |

Sell it by way of a reputable auction house!
if it is a prototype, i doubt its value can be estimated. |

This is the "Flagship" combo.
Estimates are difficult to say but if you are noth hungry though willing to sell in the (near) future just wait. 2010 a waffle dial , star markers with 18k bracelet 6098 and signed serpico&laino was sold around 20k.... , very very bad result (Mago from Venezuela was the seller) When deciding to sell look at Christies. Don't just sell it private , propably you'll not fetch the best price. Jack

An unusual watch for sure, but not, alas, unique.
This was my late father's 6605, also with serial no. in 167,000 range dating from around 1955. It is the original dial, as he had it from nearly new - so not a later re-dial as some may suggest. They seem to have been either prototypes or transitional watches. I can't help much further I'm afraid, as nobody seems to know for sure. Very few around so as you have been advised, sell it through a reputable auction house if you wish to sell it at all. Apologies for the poor quality pictures. Best wishes [/IMG] [/IMG] |

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.
It may be of interest to some, that a few of these 18k "By Official Test" 6605s have turned up recently at high profile auctions with eerily sequential serial numbers. In May 2018, serial no. 167889 was sold by Sothebys, Geneva for 15,000 CHF. In June this year, Antiquorum Geneva sold serial No. 167890 for 13,750 CHF. On 5th August, Bonham's London will be offering serial No. 167891 for sale. Interesting. kind regards KenH |
