This was actually my first Rolex mostly because of the lower price, gateway drug, before I dropped 6 figures on watches. The design is a mess, way too many fonts. However, it’s super cool because it doesn’t look like any other Rolex. Rolex rarely breaks tradition so that makes this a cool watch. The tall, thick case looks good too.

it's a polarizing watch for sure, and very unique by Rolex conservatives standards, haters gonna hate, but I really think it's unique in the way the 1655 Explorer II was unique. it's a great watch to look at in person. the internet does not do it justice.

Probably 34 mm, not 36.

I always loved the old 34mm Air-Kings, they are very classic and understated watches. In the picture is my wife's and mine. The 'Bloodhound' AK is a very different beast. I believe it has full potential for cult following as it is not a traditional Rolex. I am extremely happy with mine. It coexist with the 39mm Explorer and a DJ41 in the role my work watch. |

Lot of people like it and a lot don’t. A family member has one and I think a lot of people who hate on it haven’t actually seen it in person. It’s a very nice watch in the metal.

My second Crown after the sub ceramic. I think its the ultimate OPs if you like the color. However, if you want a blue OP now its another story.

It's a great watch, hope they don't discontinue soon but it doesn't seem to get much love over the last few years

My lovely wife gave me the OK to purchase a Rolex for my 60th birthday. Currently all of my watches are divers, including a Black Bay Blue (rose dial) and a Black Bay Black In house. I was looking for a steel OP 41 as a change, but after trying one on it was just a little too plain for me. After seeing pictures of the Bloodhound Air King I was sold. I’m a lifelong car enthusiast and I love the connection to the clock in the Bloodhound SSC. I talked to every AD within 200 miles of my home in S.E. Pennsylvania. No one had one in stock, and several told me they were only allocated 2 for the year. I turned to the internet and located a trusted jeweler in Florida and purchased it online two days ago. I received it yesterday and it is even more stunning than in pictures. I wanted something a bit different. I had a 16610 sub for 20 years before giving it to my son for college graduation. The AK is definitely different, and I love it. My wife also thinks it’s a great looking watch. Dare to be different.

Not a fan, especially the modern version. it's essentially the same as an OP (vintage) or an Explorer I (Modern). Don't really see how it has any relevance to Aviation, like the ability to track a different time zone like a GMT.
I suppose it's a good entry-level Rolex, for those who don't have the means to purchase a more expensive version. Just not my cup of tea. |

For a quirky Rolex with a connection to aviation you might look into the Datejust turn-o-graph. It has a great history. Or you could just pick up a Speedmaster Pro. or Navitimer/Cosmonaute.

I was able to get one in 2019...nowadays forget about it. I did see a SS back milly in store but that was 2k more for a similar watch. This model will be either discontinued or updated with the new movement in the next 12-24 months.

I think it's a fantastic looking watch. The hints of yellow and green on the dial look amazing!

I like the older models better than the latest variant. I always wanted a blue dial.

That’s what actually attracts me to the new one — it is such a ridiculous show from a design perspective, and so foolish, it’s gonna be the oddball over the next 20-30 years. |

Airking is great and would add a bit of fun to the collection.

The AK is a fun watch...it just pops. Sure its not a "classic" design...if you want classic there is always the DJ 36 in TT.

I saw a young corporate pilot wearing one. It looked fantastic on him! It fit the role perfectly.
I tried one on at my AD and I did not like the way it looked on my wrist. But, I don’t like how the outgoing Submariner looks on my wrist either. Regardless, if you think you can rock it, don’t hesitate. It’s a very unique watch. |

The dislike of the AK is honestly shocking to me. As a bit of background I just discovered watches last year (obviously I had owned basic watches including a Tag or two). I’m 44. I for one have never sought anything that could remotely be construed as blingy. I scoffed at fools that wore obnoxious rolexes as if they actually had money (or if they had money to display that wealth). Then I found then AK while vacationing with my family in Bermuda in may 2019. It was beautiful and it did not fit the Rolex stereotype. I bought it without hesitation. My frugal wife even said what’s the point in working so much if you’re never going to enjoy it. So bought it I did and haven’t thought twice about it. The disdain of some on here regarding others choices is amazing. Then of course I succumbed to this disease and bought a new ND Sub in November of last year. That watch is borderline too blingy for me though and I’ve considered selling for a more vintage sub.
