124270 vs 14060m TOUGH

Hey folks,

Ever since my 14060m arrived, I find myself having really difficult time keeping both of my 124270 and the 14060m. They’re both doing the same thing IMO with only a slight difference. They’re both extremely comfortable, versatile, understated and classical.

I enjoy wearing either one but I am really struggling as I think they’re overlapping a little too much.

Did anyone fave a similar issue?

What did you end up doing?

If you like them both and enjoy them both I would suggest keeping them both for a while.
Many people post their regrets on getting rid of a watch.
In time you’ll go back to the one you wear less now.
They are both different enough to have in a collection IMHO.

Congrats on having two iconic watches. I went with this one! The Submariner 14060M is getting harder to find in nice condition lately. And the price keeps going up! Quite the opposite for the Explorer. You’ll always be able to pick up another Explorer down the road. Not so the neo-vintage Submariner. But let me also say, keep both if you can.

I have sold watches and regretted that, but I still live:) point is for me is that I can’t really justify keeping both beyond the “regret” reason.

Thank you🤙🏽

Beautiful! And indeed getting harder to find. Mine is a four liner with a random serial number from 2011.

I have both of these same watches and I don’t consider them to be redundant within my collection. While they both fundamentally do the same thing the differences in size and aesthetics makes each unique. If this isn’t your experience my advice still echoes what others have said, don’t rush to sell. You’ve got plenty of time to change your mind.

Hypothetically, if both watches were stolen today, and you could replace only one of them with the exact same model, which one would you replace?

If the answer is clear, then you know which one is the keeper and which one you could let go. If you can't make up your mind, then you have enough ambivalence about the question to know you don't really want to give up either.

In that case, unless financially you must part with one, keep them both for the time being. Consider one the redundant back up of the other.

Agreed, unless he needs the money, keeping some money in a desirable Rolex model not made any more is at least as safe a place as in quickly depreciating fiat currency.

Can’t decide! So I guess keeping both for the time being

I think that's a reasonable approach. At least, it's a decision you can change. If you part with one, it's gone and the decision isn't reversible.

Meanwhile, you have a Sub and a spare. Or, if you think of it as a very small Submariner collection, you have two fine exemplars of the Sub over the course of its horological evolution.

I wear my Sub much less since getting the Exp.

I think if you’re keeping both, it would help to change out the Sub to a strap to spice things up.
Otherwise like you’ve said, there’s a lot of overlap.

Or which one you can wear to a questionable neighborhood

I've had a 14060m Y serial number for 19 years as my only Rolex and don't regret a thing.

I had a similar experience where I sold a perfectly good 214270 after getting a newer style sub. Ended up buying the explorer back and losing a little money. I'd say keep both if you can.
