Icon10 Protective Coating

Anyone used any company to put a protective coating on their Rolex ?
reviews good/bad ?
Or feel totally unnecessary and like to acquire scratches ?

Or lastly don't give a shiny sh*te ?

Personally, I would just go with film protectors for the clasp.

I don't deliberately like to acquire scratches but think covering your Rolex in plasric is ridiculous. It's like grandma's couch back in the day.

I admit I put invisible shield on my clasp. I found that it scratched so easily just from the desk and computer work. So far, it is holding up very well.

I’ve done it on the clasp of my submariner LV as well as my 226570, because the clasps get crushed. Watch shells so great so great.

If you’re wearing a Rolex then you can’t go with bubble wrap. You need to spend a little more and get this bad boy:

Yours don't look very bad here, but man--the pictures on their Instagram look horrendous.

I'd love it if I could get some stickers that actually were invisible. I'm with you. Why anyone wants to scratch up there $xx,xxx+ watch if they can avoid it reasonably is beyond me. I love a pristine watch!

I think the coating stuff is a bit ambitious to say the least. I've had most of my new cars ceramic coated and honestly the stuff doesn't last long.

I don't worry about my steel pieces but I use film on the clasps of all my precious metal pieces as they mark very easily. I like to keep my watches in great shape.

I don't treat my five and six figure timepieces as tools. My tools are kept in a toolbox in my garage lol

It's also funny to see people looking to buy watches in the best possible condition rather than beat up

Just wear the thing, it’s only a piece of dead steel.

I’d think long and hard before becoming the type of guy who wears protective covering on a watch…you’ve really lost the plot at that point. Some cool people wear Rolex, but wearing a Rolex doesn’t make you cool - stickers on a watch is the perfect depiction of this.

Did you have to purchase the entire kit, or just the film for the clasp?

They tell you how to apply, but fail to tell you how you can remove. I would avoid it like the plague. Although I am an advocate of the stickers.

I've done the same. I made a custom piece from 3M clear that covers the middle of the clasp (the shiny part) and it has worked well. Cheap and effective!

3-4 years back got a used 116520 black dial. The guy was so proud of the protective film set that was applied; a large number of tiny plastic film bits on each surface including links, case, caseback, clasp and side of each link.. this was not a thing back then. It felt so cheap and it took me a good two hours to remove all this crap but felt so nice feeling the cold steel onto my skin.. I would never do that for any of my watches regardless the value

TO BAD THE AD doesnt offer this service.

... I can see protective coatings on precious metal watches with delicate and complex finishing. My OCD about scratches in one reason I like ceramic cased watches.

Cheers

Totally agree with this. My 1675 GMT was my daily watch for 55 years, which included some pretty hostile knockabout activities back in the 1970s and 80s. I reckon the way it looks now reflects a life well lived and is not much different from how it would have looked if it had been wrapped in cotton wool all those years.

Mostly...

I was firmly in the "ridiculous" club for the longest time, but if I had a new PM everyday piece (like Paul's $45k 126619LB), I might actually think about protecting the clasp. I can't imagine how easily that would get buggered up.
