I am done!

After a few years of putting my collection together, I am finally satisfied with what I have.

There are four caveats...

1. There will always be opportunistic purchases. For instance, if my AD called me offering the BB58 then I would buy one as it’s a cool watch that flies under the radar. They know I would have one, but I’ve also made clear that I don’t want to be prioritised in any way as it’s not something I’m desperate for. As such, I’m not expecting the call to come.

2. Who knows what may be released in the future. If Rolex release a new Daytona, I cant guarantee I wouldn’t be tempted. Or if AP release a tropical dial 15202 as a 50th anniversary then I would struggle to resist. Or if my Patek AD gave me a call offering a 5711 then I would probably accept. But, I’m not expecting any of these to materialise.

3. I may turn my attention to collecting the Dirty Dozen. These wouldn’t be part of my daily collection, but an actual collection mounted on the wall. So I don’t count these as watches, more historical art.

4. I of course have grails. Patek 5270P, Rolex 5513 Milsub, Patek 5740, Richard Mille RM67-02. But, these are all out of my comfort zone in terms of price and I would need to move into a different wealth bracket in order to pull the trigger.

Bottom line, I am now enjoying my collection and can genuinely now imagine not adding to it in the future. It’s the first time I’ve been in this position, and whilst I will miss ‘the chase’, it’s great to be settled and just enjoy what I have.

Thank you to everyone on here that has helped me get to this point.

Absolutely sensational collection my friend. You even have a speedmaster which is essential for any serious collector. Congratulations. You have great taste.

Beautiful collection but no VC to complete the trinity? Just trying to throw a little fuel on the fire...

Very nice collection. Too many Royal Oaks? Well, maybe you can’t have too many. Glad to see Reverso and Speedy.

Beautiful collection. Interesting choice of Speedmaster. Was this a piece from many years ago?

I missed one off my likely-unachievable grail list, a Patrimony Minute Repeater

Yeah, had it a few years now. I have friends in South Africa so wanted a watch that I could wear that flies under the radar. I have small wrists and the Pro is a little large for me, whereas the Reduced fits perfectly.

The Tag Microtimer. It was a birthday gift 15 years ago and was my first expensive watch (certainly at the time it felt like a small fortune!). Never been popular and never seen one in the UK. I spotted Jose Mourinho wearing one when he was manager of Chelsea and commented on it, my girlfriend at the time went to great lengths to contact him and find our what the watch was, and then got one shipped from the States.

Only gets worn a couple of times a year as it’s not really my thing these day’s, but is a keeper for sentimental reasons, and it’s ‘different’ which I like.

Love this collection and the diversity of brands. Also like your caveats - makes total sense. I need to look at the Speedy Reduced. Similar smaller wrists and the 42 is just too big.

Hopefully there's a BB58 in your near future - great watch!
