Help me Choose a strap for my 15400 Blue

Hey all!

I'm bringing in my 15400 to have the crystal replaced (scratched) the end of this month, and I'm considering ordering a new strap and clasp to go with it, to be installed at APSC after the service.

I'm leaving towards leather, and on top of that I'm leaning towards blue.
(Before you all jump on me for this, I'll add, I love the bracelet, but I'm just in a strap mood lately and like to mix it up)


My questions:

• Does anyone have the blue leather on a blue 15400? If so, does it match perfectly? If not a perfect match, does it look good? I'd have concerns that if not a perfect match it might clash. Any pics would be appreciated.
  
  
• Should I consider any other colors? Brown might look nice or even gray. Again, any pics would be appreciated.
  
  
• Lastly, I am feeling pretty strong about leather, but could be persuaded to check out rubber. My feeling is this though, I don't wear this watch all the time, it's more of a special occasion type of watch, so I'm not overly concerned about swimming, easy washing or hard use and sweat.

IMO its already perfect.

Beside the strap and buckle, you also need to buy a set of plots (4 of them). Price is approx $300 for the set. Here are my ROC and 15300 on gator straps. I think your 15400 blue would look great on a blue gator. Good luck

Is there a specific reason you would no longer like to wear the piece on a bracelet?

Just that i have a lot of watches on bracelets, and non on leather.

I did consider putting the money towards an IWC, which is not an option that's off the table.

What do you think?

In my personal opinion, the bracelet on the Royal Oak is a demonstration of the manufacture's skill and is a fantastic inclusion on the piece. That is not to say that the Royal Oak does not have its own charm on a leather bracelet, particularly in precious metal variant, but in steel, as you have, I think the piece is best on the bracelet.

I also agree that it is best to put the money towards another timepiece. Separately, would you Panerai not be suited to leather?

^^^^I have to agree with this as well. On SS 15400 the bracelet is part of the watch. Same sentiment for me on the Rolex Day Date. However people put them on straps so if that floats your boat, go for it!

The 15400s bracelet is the best in the business, no way would I take it off that!! If you want a watch on strap buy a new watch!!

I'd leave this on the great bracelet, didn't you put the D500 and another on straps, think those worked very well.

I'd keep the bracelet on. The 15400 begs to be kept on a strap, although the gold version does look good on leather. When I owned my 15400 I could Never get a perfect fit with the bracelet, even with the 1.5 link. I was close to putting it on a strap and then I figured it would be easier to just let it go. Does the bracelet wear comfortably to you?

Royal Oak should be in bracelet. Except in RG pieces where a strap might help to "tone down" the "blingness".

I have seen the new Dual Time which I believe has a slightly lighter blue dial than the original Dual Time with the reference no 26120st. I don't think the blue gator will be an exact match to the blue dial on your Dual Time but I don't think it's such a glaring difference. I would go for it! I am actually thinking of acquiring a blue gator for my white-dialed Dual Time

I have the blue one too and this watch imho needs only the bracelet and nothing more. There are so much other watches which you could use with a strap...

Yeah I have a pretty good fit going. I also have to use the 1.5 link. It's not perfect, but pretty comfy.

As mentioned earlier, I love the bracelet, of course it's a huge part of the reason I wanted a royal oak in the first place. I just like mixing it up. I get bored of watches quick. The 15400 is a watch I'd like to always have in my collection, but it also gets the least amount of wrist time, which usually means it's first up on the chopping block. Like I said earlier I've been itching for a leather strapped watch lately.

Getting a new strap for my 15400 might check a lot of boxes for me, and best thing is that I can always switch back to the bracelet.

Full kit is around $1400usd w rubber strap, croc will probably be higher.

Blue croc would look great imo!

If I wanted that look I would sell the 15400 and buy the dual time. You can put some money in your pocket as well.

I like the idea of mixing it up.

I've considered buying a Vacheron Overseas on leather, but I honestly don't like it nearly as much as the 15400, a watch I already own! So spend $13k+ on a watch I'm not in love with, or spend $1400 to add a look to a watch I already own.

It feels like you guys think I'm doing a permanent modification or something.

Loved Montauk! Just off season, weather was amazing. Going away and leaving a 2 year old at home is so much less stressful when you're a 1-2 hour drive away. Super relaxing from the second we got in the car.
