That seems high, 20 to 30 seems more like the "average" discount.

Oh ok, I've never been a PM person, but I have heard the whispers of steep discounts.

In my experience between 20-28% is what I have been able to negotiate on my actual PM purchases and/or purchase attempts.

28% off being on the BLRO, and I didn't bite, because I just couldn't pay that price for that watch. If the bezel color was like the SS model I'd probably be wearing it......even thought I'm not a white gold fan. Be forewarned, as the watch bezel itself, photographs way better than it actually looks in person.

Here in Canada it is retailing for $6,000 more than a YG Sub......yet if you wanted to resell it, I'd hazard an educated guess it would bring $3,000 less than a comparable YG Sub. So......a $10,000 +/- hit........over and above the YG model. That's a serious price drop in my books.

Putting it in perspective, how about a free BLNR ?

I tried to buy one 2 months ago and stopped talking at $19K USD.......I could have owned it for $21K........the seller was asking $24K........YMMV.

It's my most frequently worn watch and I like it even more than my Platona. It's nearly as heavy as the Platona also (WG is heavier than RG and YG).

This is a good point. It doesn't take a genius to know my Smurf probably wasn't the best 'investment' in terms of $ retention, but boy does it feel fabulous to wear and look at!

Quite. If you are many worried about money, don't buy a gold watch. No-one has to.

It is my favourite watch. I own three 16710's, all SEL, two no holes, one with, both Pepsi and coke, a DeepSea Blue, a 116520, An AP ROO safari, all are hardly ever worn, the 116719 is so far ahead of all the others that I predict it is a future classic. I for one hope that they do offer a steel Pepsi, discontinue the 116719, prices would go through the roof over the next twenty years, or maybe not!

At blro price point, open up other options such as patek/ap or other highflier brands. Since blro looks very similar to ss pepsi sans the bezel lettering, i would rather get a used pepsi and save some $. Just my opinion, milage may vary.

You can get one used for less than 49. Closer to 40 is trade value.

This is why the watch industry is in a serous decline worldwide. How many people come back for more after taking such a big hit financially. They buy into the hype, shell out big bucks for a shiny whatever only to find out they lost half their money if they are lucky, when they decide to move on from it. It was the allusion of the "investment" aspect of watch buying that got the bubble going.

Why should watches be any different yo cars??? We quite happy to buy new and lose 20% as we drive off the forecourt but a watch has some mystical quality that we think it should hold its value????? Why would I buy preowned of any watch that is readily available without a discount???

I imagine the resale on Rolexes is better than or as good as it is on diamond rings and other jewelry. IMO, people on TRF forget that the rest of the universe doesn't buy $8,000 - $50,000 watches on a whim or on a monthly basis or three at a time, and also doesn't immediately decide to sell it. They buy nice watches infrequently, keep them for a long time, and never even know or care about any resale value.

The ceramic colors just ain't right on it. Ain't Pepsi. The BLRO doesn't stand for Bleu Rouge but rather Bleuatre Rougeatre. (translation not "blue red" but rather "bluish reddish")

Here is a reality check.

At the end of the day doesnt matter which PM piece you buy you WILL take a big hit on resell even if you did get a 20-25% discount initially. Even if its fully stickerd and pretty much unworn the depreciation is still significant.

PM rolex's take a massive depreciation hit. My next PM I will try buy 2nd hand or at above 25% discount thats for sure.

I think in todays climate and economic environment it would be attainable as spending $25k on a non essential item is quite the luxury these days.

This is an excellent point that's often forgotten. When judging trends, almost anyone on this forum is an outlier. What makes sense to us may be completely contrary to the ideas of the general watch-buying public. Even the way we look at Rolexes vs how the rest of the world looks at owning one (or a mittfull of 'em) is oceans apart.

rolex and patek have the best resale on average. that said if you are buying watches for resale value alone you are doing it wrong.

And most people change cars far more often than Rolexes, most owners outside this forum keep their Rolex for many years and even decades.

newbie questions.

What percent of all Rolexes sold per year are precious metal vs two tone vs steel? Anyone know? Like 1%/10%/89%? or some other numbers? Anybody?

Is there a breakdown of the percent of each model sold? Example"

day date 1%
date just 10%
submariner 60%
etc
etc
etc

I enjoy my Pepsi. It’s become my everyday watch. I’d like to buy the wg version of it. Based on some comments I’ll be able to get one sooner than later. I hope they don’t bring stainless pepsi back in 18.
