Hi everyone, would like to know what you guys look for in an AD when making a purchase? E.g politeness etc

It would be good to list out the criteria.

If I can find an honest AD who plays by the book instead of some hidden agenda, I'll direct all my purchase to that AD.

But I've yet to find one......

Chocolates. The Panerai boutique in Singapore has the best chocolates in the world (apparently, they're in every OP boutique across the globe). I usually put on about 10kg in weight every time I go in.

Besides finding the watch I'm looking for, I appreciate knowledgeable and pleasant salespeople. Given I'm about to drop a lot of money, I think I'm entitled to a pleasurable experience.

Stock. Nothing else. I don't care if the people are horrid if the watch is good. I'll spend 10 mins in their company and then I'm off.

I don't care about the eumenides. If I want that I'll go to a tailor; Euripedes? Yes, eumenides?

I expect to be treated with courtesy and expect them to know what they are talking about. I expect to be able to swap a BNIB strap for a long one at N/C. I prefer to have a "relationship" with the AD and to get a reasonable frequent buyer discount, which I always do.

This is a question you can use for any higher end purchase whether a Porsche, Rolex or Viking stove.

Fair Price (I don't need the lowest price, they do need to make money, but I better not pay more than everyone else), Knowledgeable, Friendly (not fake friendly and high pressure) and honest. The only one you can't easily determine by yourself is honesty, that requires research like you can do here to see what other people think about the AD.

These rules have served me well for my higher end purchases for many years and gets the dealer loyalty from me. If they make a mistake, but fix it, I don't hold it against them. If they don't, they lose my business.

AD that makes you feel like they appreciate your business and willingness to negotiate. I just recently bought my second Rolex from the same AD and he opened up the store to fit my schedule to make the purchase.

Service, knowledgeable staff, respect and time for YOU plus a reasonable honest explanation should they not have the item you require.

A discount would be a bonus.

Finally keeping you informed of any developments that may be of interest to you.

Easy really

The rest is less important as most buyers already know more about the reference that they are interested in than the sales staff.

Honesty, service and knowledge. Inventory and a willingness to discount also helps.

Watches I'm interested in in stock. Pleasant sales people who know how to handle the watches properly. Nice atmosphere. A Rolex trained watchmaker on staff is nice but not necessary. And someone who is willing to discuss prices realistically rather than giving me the line "Rolex doesn't allow discounting, you'll never find this watch at a discount".

Thankfully I found that in the AD where I purchased my Sub. It was the third one I tried, the first two failed one or more of the above.

One thing I don't care about is knowledgeable sales people really. I know most aren't primarily watch people and I know everything I need to know about a model before I set foot in the door from scouring the web. Probably more useful to the non-WIS buyer and I have run into one or two truly knowledgeable salespeople and that was cool.
