I have an AD that I work with exclusively locally.

Knowledgeable about the product and knows the facts and history.
Does not ever try to sell, only to facilitate.
Never pushes anything as "rare" or makes crazy claims about availability.
Respects my time and I respect his. When I am browsing I say so and he helps. When I am buying we both get serious and work it out.
He always gets me a good discount that is in line with expectations. I don't ask for 20% off a steel Daytona and he doesn't try and sell me PM at full retail. We both understand.
He deals with problems quickly and efficiently. When they make a mistake he apologizes and tells me immediately how and when the issue will be fixed.
Then he follows through and does what he said.
He keeps the attitude of always asking "how can I help you?".
He treats me like a well respected customer and I never treat him like a servant.
His information is always valid. Never knows when a price increase is coming. Normally is pretty good with estimating arrival of pieces I am interested in.
He extends every courtesy and discount to any friends I refer to him.

Notice in most of these points that MY attitude and treatment is equally important. Respect and courtesy go both ways. You can't treat employees poorly and expect a long term relationship to work.

It all boils down to two things for me:

1. Do they have the watch I want in-stock?
2. If yes, do they want to sell at a price I'm willing to pay?

That's it!

hey, noob question about AD inventory ... my AD (like any dealer I'd guess) has watches under glass on the sales floor. Staff is generally happy to whip out the Sub or DD or whatever. Question: is the AD kind of like the shoe store, in the sense that behind the scenes, there's maybe 5 Subs, 6 DDs, et cetera? So if a prospective buyer wants one, well, super-duper, the salesperson will just fish a box out from stage left. Or is it the case that if a buyer sees something he likes, he can either order it or buy the one off the floor.

Thanks for taking the time to write this post. That was well said! I love where you said, "does not ever try to sell, only to facilitate." It is similar to "lead them to water and let them drink." I have always liked that analogy. Thanks again Tony!

PS. Then knowledge.... sad how you can walk into some stores (that might start with a T) and they aren't even familiar enough with their own product line to have a conversation, or answer questions without pulling out a catalog....

My ego stroked by hot 20 year old saleswomen. Imported beer. S'mores. Canapés and/or pop tarts.

Try starting a new thread, rather than dig up an old one. People often don't read thru more than a few posts before getting their two cents in

Inventory and how I am treated by the salesperson. I'm a relatively young guy and dress casual when I'm not working. I've had a few experiences where the sales guy seemed to roll his eyes and ask if I've made up my mind yet every time I'd drop by, as if I'm wasting his time. The reaction was pretty funny when I was browsing the store again, wearing my newly acquired sub that I purchased elsewhere. I ended up purchasing my first one from an AD that was 1.5 hours away because the local AD that I wanted to buy from didn't have the piece in stock on the day I decided I was ready to buy.

I'm a female, and fluff and compliments are important, as long as it's not contrived. I like to be greeted upon entering the store, offered a beverage, offered a seat if making a purchase, and not rushed. Funny enough, I had visited the AD where I purchased my watch a few times before I made the purchase. The first time, I was taking care of other business in the mall and decided to peek at the Rolexes. The two salesmen there were too busy chatting to offer help, so I left. 2nd visit, they were extremely busy and no one was available to assist, so I left. On the third visit, I was intending to just try on the watch and buy it online, but the sales lady on that visit greeted me immediately and took the time to tell me all about Rolex watches and allowed me to try on as many as I wanted. The whole experience took 2 hours as we chatted a lot! Along with the great conversation, I also appreciated the wine!

I look the other way period! If you want BNIB go with a reputable dealer and save over 10% not to mention no tax ( another 10%). Mint and used even more. Amazing no one else will say it but you’re just throwing away your money paying retail.

I'm hoping to make a purchase sometime soon but am intimidated to going into an AD for whatever reason.

Can anyone recommend an AD ( aside from the T store ) that I can visit in the NY/NNJ area where I may have a pleasant experience?

Thank you in advance.

Their time, with no hurry, and deep knowledge of the product.

One AD manager in the USA gave the wrong movement number for a Sub. I immediately lost faith and he was also condescending. I moved on...

Back in the UK, another AD didn't offer any refreshments and was off-hand about my requirements, not treating me as a serious buyer. I moved on...

Finally, another local AD had a friendly and fun approach. Nothing "snobby" about them. Offered tea, coffee, soft drinks, champagne, chocolate Hob Nobs (the clincher!), chatted about other interests and never clock watched. He swapped bracelets, suggested other models, put watches aside whilst we went away for a few days to think. Always greeted us like friends when we returned. Gave great p/ex offers, discounted the watches chosen. Gave Rolex gifts on purchase: umbrella; cap; wash bag.
Since then I've taken a long case clock for repair, Omega pre-moon for service, diamond bracelet for repair. All dealt with in the same manner.

A regular here Seth (superdog) speaks very highly of lee perla which is in Jersey. Maybe give them a try. You could also PM Seth (superdog) as I'm sure he would be happy to help.

It will depend on the mood and traffic at the time you walk in the door.
See what you want, and buy from a trusted reseller on the forum, you will save a lot of money.
Good luck.

I'll reach out to Seth and I'm actually not far from Lee Perla so that can definitely be a place I can visit. Thank you!!

Bought mine on vacation in Maui. Researched online, all good. Great store, wonderful salesperson and lots of champagne. Baron and Leeds. No complaints. They made it a great experience as if getting a Rolex wasn’t a great experience already.
