Curious to know what TRF thinks of this

I saw this on IG. They are selling the WG Daytona but with the Pt dial & bezel. (Original dial & bezel included with the purchase.) Personally I am not a fan of this. (Fake it til you make it.) But I am curious to know how others in TRF feel about this. Especially those who own the real Big Daddy Platona. Thoughts???

Eh. This is nothing new. It's better than having a full-on fake or a homage brand, I guess.

This is an awkward proposition because Pt/WG is a relative sleeper due to the color at first glance looking like stainless steel. The whole point of this is trying to impress others into thinking you just bought a hella expensive watch, but for the money, YG would get you more looks. Me thinks this is going to be a hard sell for the jeweler.

I guess when you know it’s weird but for those that don’t, it makes no difference at all.

I’m sure the Platona owners wouldn’t care cause they can afford the real thing to begin with and have the lifestyle that complements their ability to afford the real deal. Would be weird seeing someone in a regular BMW with a Platona (not sure)???

As for my personal opinion, I’m not the biggest Daytona fan, but if I was it would be the white dial SS for me.

I'm always amazed at how they can get authentic parts to piece one of these together.

If they are aftermarket parts I'd definately pass. Come to think of it, even if they're authentic Rolex parts I'd pass

The more I look at it it's actually not a bad deal.

I'd offer them 16k for it and put back the original dial and bezel.

Now sell the plat dial and bezel for at least 3k and you end up with an original WG Daytona for less then a SS.

Let's not kid ourselves. The most commonly bought Rolex at my AD is a DJ with diamonds. 99% of services are requested to replace any and all worn hands/dials/etc and please polish the case!

My point is we on this forum dont make up the typical Rolex owner. I bet it sells easily. Only real bad thing about it for a typical owner is no RSC service.

It's a watch. It's primary purpose is two fold: 1) tell the time 2) make you feel good.

It certainly tells the time so it comes down to how will it make you feel? Only 1 in maybe 10,000 people if not fewer know what a Playtona is and of those even fewer could observe the difference without it being pointed out.

So if you love it who cares. I am lucky enough to own a Platinum Daytona, and love it. I wouldn't want to steer anyone away from owning what amounts to a variant of something I enjoy.

I agree 100%. It’s not for me as I know the difference and would feel awkward trying to wear it. For many others, this would be a buy.

I personally hate when this is done! It's a "poser" watch. A guy here took his 116520 and put the blue dial from the WG Daytona on it. Same deal. I wouldn't spend $75k on the Plat Daytona but I'd NEVER a modded one and make people think i did. Just me....

I'm OK with this as long as it's oem parts and disclosed.

But that doesn't mean I'd buy one.

there's also cultural reason why some men don't wear gold. so conversions to ss (not this one nec) can sometimes happen for other reasons than finances.

I do not understand it as this thing is like buying SL350 Mercedes and putting S65 AMG optics to it. Nice watch but the key thing is the heft and certain shine which only platinum makes. Being regognized as Platona owner is a side product i think.

Rockefellers caters to a lot of footballers so I presume this is going to a youngster not yet earning the big bucks but still wants to impress the regulars, or as a gift to a short term WAG wannabe. It's not for me, I would not have an ice blue dial on anything but platinum, of which it is the main signifier, and this is intended to deceive.

So much for the theory you can,t replace ceramic bezels, seems like if you have the right knowledge you can bastardise any Rolex.

The ad says “all original parts included.” Very upfront about this being a mod. While it screams “poser” to me, to each his own.

I would just hope the original dial and bezel are included as I think those are non OEM Rolex parts.

That bezel has a shine which does not look like ceramic. Fake bezel maybe?

Is it just me, or does that dial look off? The 3-6-9 lume markers look strange.
