Beautiful. What's the correct terminology for the relief pattern on the YG case and bracelet?

I believe it's called a Morellis finish. Spectacular and unobtainium.

That is a Florentine finish, Morelli’s afaik is little pock marks. Florentine “brick” bracelets like this do come up, but what’s unusual about this one is that the clasp is also ‘Florentine-d’ - The others I’ve seen have this older clasp, but without the finish on it.

Not sure... HQ Milton reckons it's a Morellis finish. https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...er-papers-3845. Google search suggests the same...

Interesting debate. Could the terms be interchangeable?

I could be wrong, it happens ALL the time!

I have certainly seen the two terms confused, and definitely these two finishes are different, but I do think mine is Florentine. Look at this image search for Rolex florentine -

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=rolex+flor...ages&ia=images

Maybe David/crowncollection will pipe in with some expertise?

Bob's watches And Arnold's Jewelers are calling the cross-hatched pattern Morelli and the pock-marked striations Florentine. What a can of worm's I've opened up....a google image search is showing these terms used interchangeably...

In post #6 of this old 2014 thread, David/crowncollection seems to refer to the linen or crosshatch finish as Florentine and the pockmarked one as Morelli (with photos of Stella examples of each!), but even he seems to interchange the two terms in his later posts.

To further muddy the waters, there’s this (from a 2011 Kingair post) -

Rolex Day-Date 1802 Smooth
Rolex Day-Date 1803 Fluted (Most Commonly seen)
Rolex Day-Date 1804 Diamond
Rolex Day-Date 1805 Diamond (sapphires)
Rolex Day-Date 1806 Morellis A.K.A "Florentine"
Rolex Day-Date 1807 Bark Finished
Rolex Day-Date 1810 Waved
Rolex Day-Date 1811 Moiré/Morellis Variant
Rolex Day-Date 1816 Diamond baguette
Rolex Day-Date 1817 Emerald / Ruby / Sapphire / Diamond

This does seem like an answer which the combined knowledge of TRF should have readily at hand, but there are very few research, scholarship and reference sources for DDs, compared to the sport models. (E.g., I think I’ve only ever seen one pic of the 1810/“waved” DD bezel; I’ve never seen one in person.) I don’t have the Pucci Papaleo DD book, maybe it has an answer?

My 1803 WG Cream Minute Track

Just new to me, and I'm over the moon with this one. A 1.069.xxx with a super sharp 1 hallmark case, and a near perfect cream dial with original lume.

Goodness me. That is absolutely spectacular! Well done.

The open 6 on the minute track at 12 o'clock is a little detail for those who know.

I appreciate this enabling thread. I've just recently started looking for an older Day Date I can have on a strap. Love the looks of the 1803 but also love the functionality of 18038 or 18238.

Keep the pics coming!
