And why would anyone with common sense wear any watch while operating a jackhammer.

To regulate it within COSC standards. Why else?

I ski with all my watches regularly, as well as run approx 20 miles a week. Do some DIY, though I try and avoid it where I can and pay some one else.

why chance it? I'm sure you CAN go to the gym and be active and play golf with it, but you can eliminate all doubt by taking it off and putting it back on. seems simple.

One of the members from the forum (@searchart) regularly runs with his watch, and is a watchmaker.

Some members have mentioned that they take theirs mountain biking.

I took my Datejust for a swim this weekend, then it sat with me in the hot springs and the Sauna.

However, a jackhammer seems overkill for me

Not sure. I do all kinds of yard work, weedwhacking, lawn mowing, even mountain biking. Never tried a jackhammer though. Let me know how it works out.

If you shake it more than twice, you’re playing with it.

I wouldn’t wear a Rolex or even an Omega while doing manual work like that unless it was a beater that I didn’t care about banging up. It’s your watch but I would really always take it off. Why take the chance?

There is a video, maybe a thread posted in here a while ago, about a guy who wore his Omega (planet ocean I think) at work. His job was to operate a jackhammer. If I remember correctly he wore it for years while operating the jackhammer. It didn't turn out so well for the watch...

I have, on occasion, used my demo hammer (a small version of a jack hammer) while wearing my watch. I can tell you 100% that my watch is fine, however the constant motion of the demo hammer and the angle of my wrist caused the watch to dig into my wrist, making it very uncomfortable to wear. I ended up taking it off and putting it in my vehicle.

Was disappointed to have a pin start to shake out of my Seiko SKX while in Aruba and driving an ATV around the island.

The pin had come a third of the way out, another hour or so and may have lost the watch.

Should have left my Day-Date on, would've laughed off the bouncing, shaking and swaying....

I use a jackhammer to open the case on my Rolex. So far, no problems.

Make a bit of a log and let us know.
Firstly we will need to know how big the Jackhammer is and what materials you are jackhammering.
Finally and most importantly we will need to have an honest appraisal of the actual "on-time" per day.
Anything else will be inconsequential.

When and or if your watch fails prematurely, then we will all know for sure.

I was in the U. S. Army and Army Reserve. Ground pounder (fileld artillery). I didn't jump out of perfectly good airplanes (Lol) or get in water above my neck. My Rolex watches all made it just fine. I figure that is tough enough.

Movement screws are not Loc-tited and according to one CW21 I spoke with can actually loosen up and back out of their threads. I dare say don't wear it while using a vibrating push lawnmower either. No reason to anyway.
