5230g vs 5170p
I love these two pieces. Regardless of price, which one do you prefer and why? Thanks!

5170p
The blue to black dial is incredibly gorgeous. Manual wind. And boy is it silky smooth. Subtle, yet elegant, diamond markers. It adds life to the already beautiful dial. Perfect size case. Platinum. I feel the 5320g will be a stop gap for a PCC. Oh, and did I mention the dial?

Need to turn them over. 5170p wins in my opinion.
Platinum for long wearing durability versus white gold. |

I'd probably go 5170p and switch between black and brown straps depending on the attire. Although calling it the 5320g stop-gap PCC isn't fair, it's a fantastic watch all on its own.

5320G.
As much as i like the 5170P i would be getting a datograph in that category instead * its 5320G you are talking about right as thats the pic not the 5230G which is a WT?

I hear ya. That wasn’t meant to be a “knock” on the 5320g because it is a very nice looking watch, but rather a typical evolution of a collector who can’t own them all. And I’m a case in point: My first “big Patek” was a platinum PC, and it didn’t take but a few months before it was flipped for a PCC.

I liked the 5320g also when I first saw it and was new to Patek.....but then I saw the 5170p......wasn't even close IMO in person aesthetic wise. I wasn't sure I like the syringe hands or what I researched about the stamped case either to be honest. But can't deny the 5320g is a nice watch.....just the 5170p is in another league. |

5170 because I like chronos. I would be extremely happy with either though!

I looked at both but chose the 5320G. The diamond markers were not to my taste and, while I appreciate the movement of the manual wind chronograph, the perpetual calendar is more useful to me as a daily at work. No wrong choices here. Just personal preference.

I prefer the chrono feature as well and that blue is just amazing in person! I'm typically not a big fan of diamond markers, but its subtle enough here to me. 5170P!

I meant 5320. Thanks for the correction. I had the Datograph in 39mm and enjoyed it but kinda got bored of it. The styling and wearability of the Patek chronos are more attractive to me.

Still waiting for my 5170p. The wait is killing me! Fortunately have the 5320 to keep me company in the meantime!

This is true. Although having a manual wind chrono-only that is so easy to set and go is a nice option. Having two grand complicated calendars to manage is a bit more "work".

Actually the 5170p is a casual watch and quite modern looking, big dial small bezel. Looks great with all attire. I dressed mine down with a matte strap, the glossy one does add to the formal look.
IMO the 5170 and 5320 are not in the same league in appearance and the pros of the 5170p have been mentioned numerous times in this r thread already and I agree with all of them. It’s a truly spectacular looking watch. Easy to wear set the time and go. Best of luck on your decision! |

I really love both! Although I admit I have a weakness for watches with blue dial.

I prefer the 5170p...if the Perpetual was a manual wind, it would be closer...
I think the 5170 proportions are spot on |
