Watch collecting can be a funny thing. If you ask me, I think for any open-minded collectors that don't carry a brand bias, aesthetic and personal preference besides, this Omega is clearly the better watch by miles. But paying more for the Rolex is not for a better watch but for brand image and the security of value retention. To each their own.

Agree, you can see what’s going on in the Rolex general forum about the two, many say but “it’s a Rolex” some people just want the brand.

Yup, the power of branding. But it might not be a bad thing esp for us watch lovers. Imagine if Rolex instead of Omega has released this watch with these new features and that killer dial, the waitlist will be years and everyone have to play all those AD games to try to land one.

Great point, Plus I like omega on the dial, comes with less of a stigma

said it before and will say it again - I had a sub c from new for 6 years and sold it - did well as it is a sub c - actually got £1000 more than I paid for it

this omega SMP 300m is a better looking watch with a better movement for one third of the cost of a grey market new sub c

it is simply irrational to pay the premium on the sub c or any rolex for that matter and I am not going to play that game for any watch even though I REALLY want the new pepsi GMT - I guess where I am going wrong is that I actually want that watch to wear and not

sell for a quick profit
stick in a safety deposit box with the stickers on it
wear to impress people either because I have a rolex or because I have the "pull" at an AD to get one before the little people

#sickofthebullshit

rant-let over

Congratulations guys.... what a great watch!

I just happen to try on both the black and blue dials... would have bought one too, except I couldn’t decide on the dial colour!

Congratulations! I think you are correct. This watch places second fiddle to no other. No less than brilliant. I have considered it many times. And I love the distinctive bracelet, just a bit flattened from the previous. I would have a difficult time deciding to go with black dial or the beautiful blue that you have.
Enjoy your new watch this Christmas and for many years to come!
Cheers,
Carl

And I am surprised at how many posts I have read on the various forums, where I discover that many are preferring the Seamaster now to the Submariner. Great testament to the beauty of this fine timepiece! Don't get the wrong idea, I am a huge Rolex fan, but this really does show up the quality of the Seamaster.

Fantastic photos of a truly great watch. Nothing beats the Omega at that price point.

Both are very nice, down to personal preference. I happens to love the color blue so that's my pick.

Thanks! The word of mouth is very strong on this one, and it's almost universally praised, except those that have a certain brand bias. You know this Omega is successful when Rolex sub owners comes out and say specs, movement and quality all doesn't matter at all, and it's how they prefer the Sub's "classic" look ( which is subjective of course and you can't argue against that ) when I recall not long ago they were bashing the Seamaster for the lack of inhouse movement. Anyway, I personally owned both Rolex and Omega and both are capable of making nice watches.

weird comment imo - surely its up to the wearer whether it is too big? I wouldnt wear a sea dweller on my 7.5" wrist but plenty do
