Whats everyones feelings about the 5170R?
I really like the 5170G white with the extra pulsometer and generally difficult to find NOS or old stock at an AD. Ive seen 2 but G versions but the discount has not been big enough for me to commit.
Recently i have run into the updated R version.... I have seen the 5170R creme dial twice. At first glance i like it but its missing the pulsometer that i very much like. I know the upgrade was to help simplify/clean up ghe dial. Im undecided on this I know i like the pulsomster because when i had the black And white dial G verisons side by side...i loved the white. What are your thoughts on the R verison? Also was the R’s discontinued in 2018? And the left overs are ild stock? Someone is likely going to argue that The P is great. Its just not for me. The blue dial doesnt work for me. I prefer a flat color which is why the 5320 speaks to me. I may ultimstely pick up a 5320 before a version of the 5170. On treadmill again. Just thinking |

If you dont like the 5170p, the only other reasonable option is the 5170g with black dial & breguet numerals. White/cream dials are nice but lose their lust quickly in my opinion, but if you like it more then go for it. I know my AD just recently sold the R version recently but like always, you'll have to call around and find a NOS one. Most likely somewhere in Europe..

I prefer the black dial 5170G over the white dial 5170G. I know it doesn’t have the pulsometer but I just think it looks better.
Once you have a black dial, choosing between the G and the R is tough and depends on your current collection. Both are awesome. I prefer the G over the P any day. The P is just a bit too dandy for my tastes. All except the P are discontinued I believe and you should find a good deal if you buy second hand. Let’s see what happens at Basel World. I’m hoping for a new manual wind chrono and a new perpetual calendar. |

Without the pulsometer these watches have a lot of real estate on the dial and wear large to me. |

I knew you would be one of the 4 to make the arguement for the P. But no P. Ive passed on that like 10x. Lol There are 2 near me which is why im debating it. Quote:
Currently the list of watches im debating are... 5170R/G 5320.-i cant get my mind off this. Perfect size and wear Hoping to get a 5968 so i can be like Danestaff... just need to learn how to shoot some birds And a 5740....like everyone else on this board lol. |

Much prefer 5320 over the 5170R/G. I always find something missing with the 5170G/R. The 5170p is perfect but I am biased.

Flame me for this but all 5170s have been a flop IMO and are readily available even if “retired”. I love the brand but I would wait to see the next chrono that is released.

Agreed. The next iteration chronograph may be a huge success. I suspect PP is ready for the next move on these.

true. but i not know what it takes to make a dress chrono a success. the 5070P is rare but ugly IMHO...still a success after it was discontinued. the 5170P has a serious issue, that is the diamond markers. other than that it is a beautiful watch. possibly overproduced though. so what is next?

I was looking recently as well. The 5170j is a great looking watch
with the pulsometet scale. I owned the 5170g and thought it was an amazing watch but moved to a PCC shortly after. I too am hoping for a new strap chrono this year. |

Aesthetics-wise, the 5170 is superior to the 5070 IMO.
I do prefer the 5170P over the R though, but also understand there is a price gap.. |

Feelings? Ambivalence. Overproduced. Too many metals and dials. See what Patek has up their sleeve this year. No rush.

While I really like the 5170, I have found I need the date. I really like the 5320 and 5905.
