I'm new to the forum, and a relatively new Rolex owner. I enjoy reading all the threads and wanted to posit a question regarding lume duration. While I find that the lume really "lights up" initially, it doesn't last long. Whether I'm outside in direct sunlight for hours or in overcast conditions for minutes, my observation is that the lume, once I'm back inside, doesn't hold/last longer than ten to fifteen minutes. While Rolex may advertise Chromalight (sp?) lasts up to eight hours, this simply isn't the case. Am I crazy or do any of you have the same experience? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

By way of comparison, I had a 2017 Tudor Pelagos and its lume lasted for an hour or so. I loved that watch, yet sold it because it was too tall for me to wear with suits at work and therefore impractical.

Your lume is working as normal.

It will fall to a "low level" but will be visible (heh - sort of) at night, all night.

Wish we could go back to the days of better, brighter, longer-lasting lume, only if it did tend to last only a few years or so on average.

I have a 2018 Deep Sea and if I am out in bright sunlight (it's Summer here where I am now) when I come inside it glows brightly for only 10 minutes or so.

The Super bright charge that the lume gets from direct sunlight fades away relatively quickly.

But, at 5 AM in the morning when it is pitch black, I can still read the time very easily as the lume is still glowing strongly in low light conditions.

Thank you both for your feedback. I suppose I hadn't considered that, while it may not glow as bright - or as long - as other watches, if longevity over the years is the name of the game, then that's more important.

If you go to Wikipedia and read about lumes (Chromalight, Luminova, etc.), there are claims that this material is not supposed to degrade over the years. I found that very interesting.

Sunlight gives lume it's pop a hell of a lot better than indoor lighting. Most light sources like LED and Fluorescent just can't produce enough photons to make long lasting lume.
