They are equally stunning imo and are equally strong in terms of value retention. It really depends on your size. If you are a bigger guy definitely 5980/1R. Other wise 5711/1R is probably the more comfortable watch to wear in the long term.

5980 for other people. I think it’s too much for me to comfortably wear, so I’d go 5711r

I’d go for the big delicious pot of chocolate fondue.

5711R for the win. I have no use for a chronograph. I love the way the 5711R feels on the wrist.

I really like both of 5711/1r and 5980/1r and planning to buy both.

Which one is harder to get? (Considering waitlist, premium, etc)

I want to purchase the harder one first out of these two models.

Also, what is the current market price of these?

Thanks for the help!

Easy. 5980R is the one that you want to keep. It’s a 5711R taken to the next level.

11'...

I also prefer the simplicity. My AD showed me a 5980r a few weeks ago and it just didn't click.

Both heavy hitters, no wrong answers....but a Patek chronograph is always special.

5980/1R. Fits much better on my wrist. I love the 5711 but its a too thin for a guy coming form AP's

I've ordered/am waiting for a 5980 1/R but I think the 5711R is actually a much more elegant and beautiful watch.
You know I can't quite explain why I've ordered the bigger, brasher version. It doesn't make sense and I actually passed on a 5711R last year too.

I mean I know that the watch I WILL buy isn't as nice as the one I passed on. What the hell?

The 5980R is perhaps a little over the top but maybe that's why I thought, "hell with it, go big or go home."

Get the 5711R.

I would get the 5980/1R first as they may discontinue it next year, especially if they are coming up with a 5990/1R
