PP 5205 vs ALS 139.025
I have quietly followed the forum for a long time but this is my first post. I realize that I am posting this on the Patek subforum but I would appreciate honest opinions.
I am the owner of a PP 5205g-001 (white gold case, two tone silver dial, and oxidized white gold indices). I enjoy the watch but I am not sure I LOVE it. I recently purchased an ALS 1815 small seconds (235.032) and, for me, it is perfection. I like everything about it: the case; the the subtle details on the simple dial; the movement, etc. To me, it simply looks and feels like a higher quality watch than my Patek. I have always admired the Grande Lange 1 moonphase (139.025) and have considered it one of my grail watches. I recently had an opportunity to try one on which confirmed its status. Without further ado, I am considering trading my PP 5205 for an ALS 139.025. Am I making a mistake that I will regret down the road? Please share your opinions. Thanks. -Mark |

Been tempted many times on Lange but never quite get there. I know it’s a classic for them but the asymmetric dial on the Lange 1 bothers me have to say

Neither appear to be on any trajectory to become future auction pieces (no offense I'm way down the ladder compared to you!)
So i'd go with what you like more. I will say from an analytical perspective (and i actually like the 5205) the Lange 1 is as pure Lange as it gets *and* will have finishing similar to Lange 200K watches where neither of those things can be said about the Patek. The Lange is a better watch in 2019 objectively in most ways (with the only exception that you will really need to have it only serviced by Lange for a variety of reasons) What appeals to me about Patek in general is the link to the mid century time when mechanical wrist watches were a necessary accessory - and during that time they were pretty much the top of the game. Objectively speaking, Lange makes better watches but I can see why many prefer Patek. If you want to trade then do it.

I’ve owned several Langes. Get the Patek.

I would not trade any patek for a lange, dollar for dollar.
5205 is a keeper imo |

Mark, only you know what you will and wont regret in the future. It sounds to me like you enjoy the higher quality of ALS, and personally that's the way i'd go too. Brand experience with reliability, reasonable service, etc goes to ALS imho too. Perhaps revisit Patek once they improve their craftsmanship and lower the extremely long service times.

Thanks everyone for you feedback. I decided to hold onto my 5205 and I am very happy with that decision. I still love the Grande Lange 1 moonphase but I will have to hold off on it for a while.
