This just goes to show how tiny this industry is - with the largest player generating ~$5bn of revenue...

Its a niche industry, almost cottage in nature, but that’s why we love it. An acquired taste that is seemingly getting more popular, as grey prices are demonstrating

Read the report - the $8.5bn is sales of Rolex watches generated at retail. Rolex’s revenue is ~$5bn.

Hmmm,

It also says Omega did $3B. If that is so then..

1) it's a 2 horse race

2) all others combined did $500 million for the year

Somehow, I don't believe the math. Tag, Hublot, IWC, Zenith, Tissot, Patek, etc. only doing $500 million combined. I don't think so.

Likewise. I can imagine IWC, Zenith, etc. make pennies, but Patek is 1bln+ company.

Click the link in the article to see the full numbers in a chart. It has the rest selling significantly more than 500M combined.

It also shows number of watches sold which is very interesting. For example Tissot sold 2.4M but made slightly less money than RM which sold only 4300

What do Seiko, Casio etc turn over?

As for it being a cottage industry, I'm already dreaming of my modest $8.5bn rustic dwelling up in the hills.

Crazy to think the likes of Musk, Bezos, and Gates have personal net worth values twenty times Rolex's annual revenue.
