Best value for money Rolex - New Explorer I

It can't get much better than this, best value for money in the Rolex line up, best one watch you can have for sure. Dress it up, dress it down.

Proportions are spot on however it will be too small for some.
Dial looks great.
I was not a fan of too much empty space on the 39mm.

If your wrist is under 7,5in you are all good to go, this is the right size.

So true. 50 euros cheaper than the AK 116900. The best 1 watch collection!

A steel sub costs 50% more... And you get a date function, and a diver watch you will use for everything, except dive.

Can you explain how the new 36mm explorer at $6450, is a better value that the 36mm OP at $5700 if they both have the same movement, same bracelet, same easy link clasp, and both have lumed hands and markers?

It doesn't have 'Explorer' on the dial!

How large is your wrist? Could you post some wider photos of it on your wrist?

I am interested in a 36mm Explorer but worried it may be too small for my wrist.

Best modern representation of the "tool watch" era. Very tempted!

Personally I think it looks great and people with smaller wrists will definitely appreciate it as it'll be more proportionate for them. I had a 36mm 14270 before and felt it was a tad too small for me. 39mm fits much better but that's just my personal preference.

Obviously it’s a classic size, but I think the ladies comments are on point when you think about the dearth of options for ladies in the sports range. Of course they can rock a Sub if they want, but many just don’t want watches that big on their slender wrists.

My wife would never wear a Sub and my 39mm Explorer looks ridiculously big on her wrist. My 36mm 116200 Datejust, on the other hand, is still a bit big but not obnoxiously so. So as a focus group if one, I can see ladies digging this.

Yes, all 36mm Explorer owners wear "female" watch and some members know that :D

It looks amazing for small-medium wrists. Just like how 45mm doesn't fit for all ;)

Datejust is a dress watch, of course you can dress it down, but it is more at the classier side, the Explorer is a sport watch, but you can easily dress it up.

I was not saying a datejust.
This, $5700 for the updated version of this with new movement and new clasp.

With the explorer story was like with many painters. Few were interested in their works and just after death worth much more :-)

still doesn't say Explorer on the dial. The history is worth a couple of bucks.

Icon14 It's all in the hands - and the dial

I have 177200 Oyster Perpetual. I.e. like yours, no date, but with the black 'superlative chronometer officially certified' 3-6-9 dial. So with the exception of the Rolex crown instead of the Triangle, basically a mini-Explorer dial in all but name. Unlike most folk on here I prefer small watches - they're all too big for me! This is 31mm and perfect. Just so inconspicuous and slips beneath the cuff. Only I seem to know what it is lol.
The dial with the numerals is excellent - I find it easier to read than the indices only dials.
What I have realised, though, is that it's the hands that really make the Explorers and the Submariners. I wish I could get a set of Explorer hands made to the right diameter for this 31mm!!
Anybody got any thoughts as to who to ask?
Cheers - and thanks,
Mark

This is what I was thinking. If you're truly looking for the best "value" Rolex, it's hard to beat the OP line.

With that being said, I will pay the extra $ for the Explorer dial and sports clasp. For me, nothing beats the Explorer dial...it's just perfect.
