Patek Warranty

I heard somewhere that for a new Patek you should try to get it serviced at the 2 year warranty period for free and then they will grant an additional year?

Is this true?

Did the person who told you this also offer to sell you some magic beans?

You’re thinking of AP.

Do most people get a free service at the 2 year mark then?

That's AP, if you buy it brand new from an AD, there's a paper document in the watch manual, you mail it to AP then you get the extra year of warranty. For a total of 3 years. If you purchase an AP from the boutique you get a 5 year warranty at the time of purchase, but obviously the boutique doesn't discount on price.

I think I am mistaken with AP.

Anyway - with Patek, does it make sense to send the watch for service at the end of the 2 year warranty period? Anyone done that - I wonder if they do a full polish/movement check etc for free?

Based on another thread, maybe they mean that if you send it in after two years, by the time you get it back, it’s three years old. So it’s like it was covered for 3 years.

They won’t do it for free and there’s absolutely no need to service a watch after only two years.

I thought that AP would check for water resistance at the two year mark.

Anyhow, I wouldn’t send a Patek, or any other watch, in for service until it’s time.

Never give HSWA your watch unless it’s broken... unless you’re a masochist.

You get a third warranty year these days by simply registering your AP on their web site

its 5... 2 year sales warranty at time of purchase + 3 years additional for registering

Patek's warranty is a weak point for the brand as other manufacturers have moved recently to extend warranties so Patek is behind the curve IMO

AP does pressure testing for free. You can do it every year, forever if you want and its not conditional on having a warranty. Not sure about Patek

Is this one of those Patek appreciation threads?

its 5 years on all watches now anyway (AD or boutique).... but the 5 year boutique warranty isnt accurate. It was a 5 year warranty "at the boutiques discretion" not all boutiques participated in this so it was not automatic. The extra two years were only covered by the individual boutique, so if you bought at a boutique in geneva for example and you live in the US you would have to return the watch to the boutique of purchase in years 4 and 5 for the warranty to be valid. Not the same thing as a world wide warranty.

That has now changed with the introduction of the 2 years +3 years for registering they introduced last year.

If there is nothing wrong with it I don't understand how this would be possible. A warranty is not made for this. My AD told me that the service interval is 5-10 years.

it was super confusing. There were a few threads on the AP forum about just that and people getting upset that their boutique didn't offer a 5 year warranty but another boutique did. The new warranty process from last year made it much simpler.

Unlike Rolex, Polishing is not a routine part of Patek service.

Re service: if your watch is broken send it for service, when it returns it will have another year of warranty.

If you bring a malfunctioning watch in for service before the recommended service interval and after your original warranty period has passed, Patek may extend a courtesy of complementary service on a case by case basis.
