The Seiko 5 has got to be one of the best deals out there

Love this watch.... for less than $60USD, you get a reliable auto with a clear caseback. It is relatively weighty and feels good on the wrist. For $40USD, i swapped the acrylic crystal for a low dome sapphire with excellent results, imo. While not a "high end" watch, it is an excellent value for a beater watch....

Get them while you can, new and unworn. Seiko seems to be moving the 5 out to pasture to focus on higher $ offerings.

Nope. I have a smaller wrist, so 36-40mm is perfect for me.

These are awesome, I had one as my first automatic and beat the hell out of that thing and it kept working. I ended up giving it away to someone who was looking to get into the watch hobby

Great watches. I have an early Seiko 5 from 1965 and it's still reliable enough to have been the only watch I took on my last trip to Japan.

5’s are just cool. Works for me on my 7.25in wrist.

As I've reviewed this thread, i realized two things: 1) I misstated that the original crystal was acrylic, when it is actually a mineral crystal, and (2) after seeing the sweet black faced version, I discovered that it is slightly more expensive than the tan, green and blue versions. Still, I believe it is a great watch for the price.

This looks really cool to me. It is well under $200 with a display caseback and full stainless steel case and bracelet.

SeikoSports5-Green.jpg

I went to Seiko boutique today and they said they are not stocking it in the shop because it is too inexpensive....

I'm tempted to buy this...Its 44mm case size with hardlex crystal, and to me with the green dial it is totally retro cool.

What say you guys????

I don't think the photo does it true justice.
I believe it has a metallic dark green dial...dare I say like an LVC (but
darker)

I think I prefer the blue:

It amazes me how much bang for the buck these Seiko 5's provide.
For $150 or less you get a fully automatic movement with hacking, day & date feature and 100m water resistance on what is essentially a stainless steel Oyster style bracelet.

A great way for folks of all ages and incomes to enjoy the hobby, as well as appealing to the broader watch collecting community
