Unique Air King Date...Franken-watch??
So, months back I was on the hunt for an AKD, and I came across this watch.
It was being sold w/out papers, and by someone who believed it to be authentic, but wouldn't/couldn't have the back removed to show the inner workings. I didn't purchase this watch, and I don't know if anyone did. It received bids, but I don't know if the seller accepted them. It's my understanding that the AKD and the Explorer Date shared model numbers for a bit. This is the only other image I've located with a similar dial. The hands are different from watch to watch. The Explorer Date's look authentic to me, and the AKD's look newer. Can anyone shed some light on the AKD/ Explorer Date dial/watch? Perhaps when it was made? Is the AKD a 'Fraken-watch'? Anyone have something like this? Thought I'd ask my fellow TRF'ers. Thanks so much! |

I have an AKD
All AKDs that I have seen have these style hands and hour marks on the dial. I have not seen a "rombus" style hour marks before at least on the AKD model. It seems like an aftermarket dial to me. So it could be that the movement in this watch is not the right one. I would stay away of this one. |

Must say I've not seen one with that dial. Mine is a 5700 and has a dial like kotsos's.

I think both dials are real but the arms on the AKD are newer than they should be. Reference number 5701 seems to be what they are. Here's a (small) picture I found from a foreign Rolex catalogue which seems to have the dial in the upper left corner.
Do you all like this dial? |
