I'd get the white gold Sub over the 5711 esp if its my only watch.

I'd get the 116619 and then save up for a 5980

WG Sub, no doubt.
5711 at $10K less would be a hard decision but for the same price, WG Sub is a no brainer. |

Well said. I just tried on the WG sub at my AD and it is gorgeous. Love the WG and heft to it but I would not give up my 5711 for it. Good luck and let us know

Ignore the resale price and ignore what the world tells us about which is more sought after. This watch is much more beautiful than any Patek. In my option people choose their watches so they could impact other people. I don't care what other people think, I choose my watch because I like it and I don't care what others think. And if you choose your watch with that in mine, the clear choice is Rolex. And that one (even though I don't own a sub) is one of the most beautiful watches in the world.

Yes PP is a superior brand, yes it may be harder to find...but my vote without hesitation would be the WG LB.
in the Rolex world, that watch to many people is the ultimate Rolex, their grail, the flagship sport model. Visually it does it for me much more than the casio-looking PP. No random person will ever compliment your PP, but they will the sub. That shouldn't matter, but when you spend 30k on a watch it still feels nice to hear nice words about it. I love cars and I look at it this way...Aston Martin is certainly a superior brand to Porsche in many ways, however I'd still take one of the ultimate Porsches, say a turbo s or gt3 over an AM V8 Vantage. |

just try on both a few times and go with your best impression. i've tried both these watches on and the Sub left a much stronger impression with me. i thought the Patek would blow awy the sub but i found the Patek unbalanced and uncomfortable for some odd reason can't say why.

Patek! I love Rolex but there's no doubt that Patek is in a different level compared to Rolex.

I was thinking more along the lines of the brands in general. But I see where you're coming from like how their complications and ingenuity really defines the brand. But personally if I had a choice between a simple calatrava and a complicated sky-dweller I'd probably still go for calatrava because in my opinion the perception of a PP is much different from a Rolex.

I think the PP is a good looking watch, but I think the WG Sub is a GORGEOUS watch. A gold sports watch is sort of an oxymoron to me, but I would still prefer it to the steel Patek.

Regarding the pix of the PP on this thread - is it just me or do the numerals on the date wheel seem to be too large for the date window? The numerals appear to be touching the edges of the date window - looking awfully cramped. ROLEX date numerals are nicely centered and not touching (or appearing to touch) the edges of the date window on the dial...

I'd pick the sub. PP styling just isn't for me.

Aesthetic design aside both movements are 28,800vph but that's about the extent of the similarities. The 324SC is 3.3mm thick vs the 3135 6mm. While thickness isn't necessarily an indicator of robustness, the extra width of the gears provide an added layer of durability. The 324SC is also unidirectional and not bidirectional like the Rolex. There's also the ruggedness of the rotor design. Sure it'd be nice to have a modern ball bearing design like the 324SC or even the 4130 but let's face it the 3135 design has stood the test of time longer than most movements have been around.

My choice would be the Rolex White Gold Smurf.
While i would love to own a Patek, this particular Patek model just doesn't do it for me, compared to the SMURF. |

Such a tough call IMO. The WG sub is off the charts, but then the Patek is... well... a Patek... best of luck with your choice

I agree and thanks to all here who have weighed in. In the end I know I will have to make my own call but it struck me as such a tough call for those of us who love these two brands. 25k is a price point where I don't think I will ever go above for a watch, unless I have a big change with my financial situation, and I think this might be true with a lot of others here. It has been interesting and a little surprising to hear all of your thoughts. Thanks again and I will update you when I make up my mind, but I am in no hurry as the hunt is sometime the best part!

Go for the Sub... It's a more classic look! The Patek looks very 80's... Robocop!

I have the 5711 and they are essentially 2 different types. The SUB is much more of a "beater" i.e. more rugged etc. Its not to say that the Nautilus is fragile, it may seem so as its thinner but its essentially a "workhorse" patek imo. I ride the bike, and wear it all the time. The accuracy is also something very respecatable, +-1 second per day, its amazing.
I would def go 5711, the sub is too common, though it is a great watch.
