116528/508 question & Poll

Can anyone give us a modern history lesson in what happened when the yellow gold Daytona recently went from reference 116528 to 116508? When was this change made? For the life of me I have googled my face off and I cannot seem to find the changes summarized. A fellow Canadian Eric made a thread about this recently and mentioned the bezel change. Is this the only change? Here is a link to Eric's thread:

Also, which one do you prefer?

Josh

Gotta go white but if the blue had stick markers it would be a tough choice!

Change was as of Basel this year.

Rolex obviously updated the SS Daytona but inline with that it also updated the YG and TT models so all the bezels across the range be it metal or ceramic has the more modern look arrow point markers.

There maybe dial option colour changes or slight change in print as with the 116500 but other then that it just really been the bezel update.

Old Vs new bezel markers on the TT seen below

This just about sums it up and hopes it answers the OP's question.

For me, the black dial gets my vote for now (love the red indices and second hand), but would really need to see the green one in person to be sure.

The OP did say he was aware of the bezel so guess I jumped the gun a little but just wanted to clarify its a simple update in my mind to bring the range inline.

Still unsure why they currently use two cases designs across the Daytona range as I would of thought from a production point of view one case design would be a cheaper and easier production option and given the 116520 > 116500 updated along with the YG and TT this year they had the opportunity to unify the case shape then

I'm kind of liking the blue with arabics, but Daytonas already have busy enough dial, so IMO I'd go white dial with index markers

If they release a yg ceramic next year would that make this 116508 a rare model?? Only receiving an updated bezel in 2016. Perhaps it would become a semi-rare transitional model in the future ?

Given the update this year and the release of the ceramic SS Daytona I would say that's an indication the YG and TT will stay with the metal bezel for a while! Maybe in the near future we will see a RG ceramic Daytona on bracelet.

Must say the green was quite eye-catching, tho I never tried it on.

Good question. It would make sense for Rolex to do as you have mentioned above, but I guess not. In any event, the 116508 is still a beauty.
