Just got this beautiful vintage, my first, hopefully not the last one. As usual had to tell my wife that some money will disapppear from the account, but did not tell her however that the watch is almost as old as she is. She does not even suspect, as watch looks as new, until you start taking macro pics. I love this watch. It feels great on the wrist, solid, heavy, seemingly indestructable - just how I like it. The best part is that in the last fifty hours on my wrist it is +/- 0 sec. This is 9 mil. 16660, but I cannot tell it apart from early 16600. How can you tell, without popping the back? the other question I have is when should I service it, considering that in over two days the watch have been extremely accurate? Please excuse amature photography.

Beauty!! IMHO I'd send it to be serviced even though its super accurate. But that's just what I'd do. Enjoy it to the max!

That was my first watch too... enjoy!

Regarding servicing:

Bought a 1998 SD in 2001. The watchmaker had just serviced it.

I wore that thing 16 hours a day, 99% of the time over the next 8+ years.

Still hasn't been serviced because, like yours it is too damn accurate!

When to service... Some do it every five years. Some do it every 7-8 years, some every 10, some only when its broken. Some haven't done it in 10+ years or even 20+ years.

Your call.

I lose about 30 seconds a month. And If I want it to be absolutely perfect, I can let it sit on the bedstand at night and gain back a few seconds.

inside 16660 pics

Thanks again for the welcome and advices. I assume that the last time this watch was serviced was 1999, and since I am not planning to take it of my wrist for awhile, including beach and swimming, I would feel better if it was serviced. Do those numbers mean that it was serviced in Rolex service center or any watchmaker marks the date? Any reputable watchmakers in NJ or for that matter anywhere in the country? I guess nowadays with fedex and ups, it does not really matter were in US the repair shop is.
