LV and SS GMTIIC going through airport security at T5

LV won and SS GMTIIC lost.....

Wife wore the LV and didnt get asked to take off and i was asked to take off....

So i asked why? And put it in the tray, so one of the guys picked it up and put it through the scanner - it beeped.

He told me that only the big and heavy ones triggers the scanner off.... Wtf?!?

Anyway, we had abit of laugh and he then said... In front of a few people.... "oh and fakes ones triggers the scanner too!" and the winked....

Then the smarty wife replied.... "yeah, wouldnt it be nice to use the money elsewhere...." wtf#2?!?

We all LOL...

Now duty free shopping begins...

See you guys in a bit.

i've always taken my sub off in the past even though i'd never been asked to remove it, this year though i had my DSSD on & asked the security whilst i waited....he saw the size of it & said 'definitely', i'd taken a suede travel pouch with me & stashed the watch in with my hand luggage rather than have it rattling about in the tray alongside keys, change etc

yeah, i blame the super case and PCL on the GMTIIC..... We all had fun, so its all good. This is the 2nd time i got asked to remove my watch. Not z big deal for me anyway :-)

now duty free shopping done, bought more wanted items rather than needed items and now waiting to board.

Had a quick look at Mappin & Webb, nothing exciting... No GV for you Anders (puffy)......
There were no SS rolex sports watches..... Apart from a SS white dial Milgauss.

Signing off now. Talk later

Haven't yet gone through security with either my rolex's. I really haven't had them that long.

But I 'm sure I wouldn't want it rattling around with change and keys.

Why would you not take your watch off?

Watch is metal and you need to walk through a metal detector.

Just seems impolite to me NOT to take it off in the first place.

ps, your wife sounds awesome!

I fly commercial a lot. I've found that if you hold your boarding pass up where security can see it as you come through the metal detectors, your watch ends up center mass over your heart and does not set off the metal detector. If your wrist is at belt level, or away from your body, it does. Just my .02.

Becuase it's worth several thousand dollars and most of the time it doesn't set off the detector. As for rude, have you dealt with the TSA people lately? What a bunch of clowns, I wouldn't trust them with a Timex no less a Rolex. Airports are full of scammers who are on the lookout for high end watches to swipe. I must be rude cuz I never take mine off.

I never take off mine either, and have yet to set off the metal detector with either of my watches so far.
As I'm sure many of you know, there is a scale on most of the metal detectors, and it's first when you go outside of this scale that it goes off. So a little metal is always ok. I usually just show it to the member of staff as i walk through, so they can relate the slight reaction on the detector to the fact that i still have my watch on.

i always take it off, why would you want to take the chance of holding up the line, i agree, its rude to leave it on. just toss it in the tray and be done with it :)

ahh... got back to London last night and is pretty "cold" atm... compared to the sunny Greece.

the GMTIIC and Sub LV went for a swimming on our wrists for the very first time in Corfu island beach (didnt really want to leave them in the room..). it was awesome.

saw a few other Rolex at Athens airport yesterday -
2 x Sub
1 x DSSD
1 x Pepsi
1 x milgauss Black dial
2 x DJs of some sort

came close pulling the trigger on an Ulysse Nardin SS Maxi Diver on rubber strap... looked great imo and was offered 10% discount ontop of duty free... but have decided to put the funds towards something more "worthwhile" in the very near future

loved the weather (hot!), food and the beach - can not remember when i was this "dark" last time

ps - BTW, the wife beeped this time going through the security gate with the LV at Athens airport.
