Lets talk Ceramic
Whats the verdict. Do you like the old Sub or the new ceramic?
Does anyone have one of each that can be held side by side for comparison pic? |

having owned a GMTIIC for a couple of months now - i'd say i like both the old and new Subs the ceramic shines in a different way to the aluminium insert
would really love to own a black Sub-C in the near future (fingers crossed ) |

I like both my Subs.
Think the big step forward on the new Sub is not the ceramic, but the bracelet. You really have to wear it, so smooth and comfortable. Some comparison pics: subc-lv1.jpg coSubc-lv.jpg subc-lv.jpg Tom |

Is the new Oyster bracelet the same for all new Rolex's. I have the new oyster in my Milguass. I do like it better than the bracelet on my 2003 Yachtmaster.

I just can't get passed those big lugs.....maybe in person it's better. I need to hit an AD.

I dont have anything to compare it to but i love my sub c. My friend has the 16610 and a blue and gold sub(sorry i dont know the exact "name") and he saw my sub and really liked it.
To me, even though its the same size it looks bigger than the 16610 and thats what i wanted. i didnt want to polish the bracelet of the gmt. dssd was fresh too. but the new sub felt perfect on my wrist. thats what counts. However, i do want a pepsi gmt. ;) |

go, have a look, wear it...and you will like it! In the beginning, the wider lugs were a deal killer for me. I thought I will never buy the new Sub. Then, I tried it on, and guess what...bought it, and today, it still grows on me; I like it more and more every day. Have six "old" classics beside, and sometimes I think "well isn't there missing something" when I look at them...funny, but true. Regards Tom |

Being an owner of the 16610 old school sub, i have to say I personally like the old sub. I am not biased even i have the old sub. I could just sell it anytime and upgrade to the new sub if i really love it, but i don't. My 16610 is a keeper. And in fact i have been lucky to have bought it before i can still buy a brand new 16610.
The super case just bothers me. Out of proportion, too wide for the bracelet. The ceramic bezel, i am ok with it, but worried about it's tendency to shatter. It sure is pretty and shinny, however i don't think it's a good match for a sssports model, on a tt model maybe its better, and it reminds me of rado watches, sorry. Maxi dial is ok, no problem with it. New clasp is better than old one i have to say. |

I don't dislike the new Sub-C, however I can't justify paying upwards of 7000 dollars for it. Rolex prices are getting obscene IMO. I don't see how a piece of ceramic, maxicase and changes to bracelet can amount to a more than 2000 dollar difference. I plan on sticking with my M series sub and z series DJ for the time being...

Of all the improvements to the new Sub, my personal opinion is that the introduction of ceramic, while inevitable, is the least necessary. When I was doing research for the 16610 purchase about 6 months ago, I had never come across any complaints related to bezel insert. As a matter of fact, there was praise for it's durability, and ease of replacing (cost and do-it-yourself nature of the job). I'm not certain what holds true now with ceramic. Swapping inserts will be near to impossible now:( WYOWATCH's picture is beautiful- suffice it to say the SUB is a great looking watch, has been and probably always will, the new SUBc carries the tradition on into the next decade!

Hey Tom,
That's what I'm afraid of!! I'm really starting to like the new LV, If the lugs are OK in person, I might have to spring for one. At least i can justify it as being substantially different than my other 2 subs.

Love the new bezel insert and the clasp, but that's pretty much where it ends for me. I think the new lugs are disproportionately large compared to the bracelet width, and prefer the way the older case tapers down more.

I like the watch but I hate the huge clasp, that is the reason I did not buy the TT Blue. It is almost twice the size of the old one. Also the bezel is not black it changes color between tone of gray depending on how the light hits it.

The new Sub-c is the new standard for the iconic Sub.
The Sub-c took a quantum leap this year in upgrades. Sub-c all the way. |
