"Confessions of a flipper" or "sorry, I lied"

Yes, I lied. Unintentionally and unknowingly at that moment, but still....

About a month ago, I made a post, where I was completely over the moon with my IWC Mission Earth - http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=181067

Seemingly, it satisfied my desire for a large, legible, simple watch... And it did, no doubt. So what else could I possibly want?

This>

IWC Big Ingenieur 7-day, model 5005-05

Bought it for stock at the Chicago IWJG show, put it on my wrist for 's and giggles - next thing I know, I am taking out links, have decided firmly to keep it and sell the Mission Earth. It would be redundant to keep both - the cases are identical, dials are similar except the numerals are slightly smaller on this one. I do like the red-tipped second hand of the Mission Earth, but that's a sacrifice I am willing to make for this view:

(Mission Earth has a solid caseback)

So, in addition to all the pluses of the Mission, I now have a 7-day Power Reserve and an exhibition caseback with a magnificent view. Sure, I like Mission's dial slightly more - but I've wanted an extended PR watch for a while, ever since I got rid of my Pam 289 (see - flippin' again! )

Sorry for the stock pics, will post 'real' ones soon. Took my good camera to the beach last week and got sand it in

Oh my god for the case back view! This should be the view of a real movement, not just some tiny movement fitted in a large case!

Exactly - it takes up every bit of that 46mm case!

Congrats Greg and thanks for the confession.

I can certainly understand why you want to switch to this one. I think I'd want to wear it with the movement facing out.

Believe me, on more than one occasion daily do I take the watch off and play with the rotor...

You wouldn't be a WIS if you didn't.

Just don't play with it too long or you'll go...wait a minute, that's something else.

BIG Congrats!
Really a great looking watch.
I would end up staring at that movement through out the day as well.
Both are great watches but somehow this one has a clean and classier look to the dial even with the PR on it.

Greg, great watch.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time in a new IWC boutique in Hong Kong late last year and tried on a brown faced Ingenieur (limited edition), I did not want to take the watch off. The chocolate brown face was very appealing.

While this watch was a different beast to your new Ingenieur, it was well proportioned and did not feel as large as a 46mm watch. Cheers Jules

Greg, awesome choice. I read your mission earth thread and though that is a very nice watch but in my head thought the big engineer 7day would be the ultimate! I guess we think alike!

The 7 day movement is incredible and nothing like the understated clean look of an Iwc.

Andy
