Three Kings without Guards for their Crowns!!
Three Kings without Guards for their Crowns
After having made the introduction of my 6542 GMT in a separate thread today, I started thinking about how nice are the old original versions of the Submariner, GMT and Explorer models, which didn´t present crown guards on their cases. A feature presented on their sequel versions, and in case of the Explorer, on the Explorer II model. I find that these watches have a very special charming character. They are smaller, more compact, and they produce a very particular and pleasant feeling when wearing them on the wrist. They are reminder of a long gone epoch, times more romantic and adventuresome, and nostalgia has a lot to do with the feeling. Images of the conquest of Himalaya, or of Bond driving his Aston Martin through winding Swiss mountain roads, or, why not? the figure of the beautiful Pussy Galore fighting with Bond, to finally fell under his seduction, while wearing a "no guards" GMT on her pretty wrist. (Goldfinger) To my personal view, I love these watches, classics, timeless, accumulating the patina of time on their indexes and hands, which add to their charm. What a beauty!! I wish you like them as much as I do!! Have a nice day friends!! Best cordial regards, Abel.

The 1016 is a new addition, and I haven´t shown it here yet. I promise a new thread soon. It has a fabulous patina on indexes, and the dial is a gloss beautiful too. Printing of markings is gilt. As a matter of fact, the 6542 and the 1016 where found almost with a few days difference. What a deal!! My pockets are exhausted!! Hope you read my other thread of today introducing the 6542. Receive my best cordial regards, Abel.

I was there at the time and can say that having a watch was an absolute need to organise the day without cellphone ; all the romance comes second !. Your watches are great. Show more ! |
