Maybe in bygone days but there's no tritium in the current Subs (or any Rolex). But WG is used for its corrosion resistance i.e. it won't rust.

Take your time. Sooner or later, you will find something you like. Only then, make the purchase.

For the money, you should be happy, satisfied right down to the smallest detail. Too many people get these watches simply to put a brand on their wrist. That said, I find it interesting the comments from posters on the Omegas. Having both a Submariner and a Planet Ocean, the Sub gets more wrist time, but the look, the detail in the PO is more pleasing to my eye.

You need to go vintage. But the white gold Submariner with blue dial didn't move you, I'd like to check for a pulse, that's about one of the most attractive watches ever made in my opinion.

I absolutely love the blue dial on the TT sub, however I can relate to your experience.
I was dead set on purchasing a Sub C as my first Rolex, right up until next to that model in the window of the AD I visited, was a TT DJ with champagne stick dial. I ended up trying that on before the Sub, and it was love at first contact and I have not looked back since! Strange how things happen when you least expect it :)

Somehow I want to buy something relatively new so I'm safe warranty wise, peace of mind, does the watch need a service yes/no, how does the movement look like after 20-30-40 years etc.
If I would get a vintage one it really needs it to be 100% original. It just takes a lot of time to read about every model, detail, just to be sure. The process of buying one takes a lot more time, but that's part of the fun I guess. There isn't really anything other than a datejust/daydate or a submariner I would like to try. The other models Rolex makes aren't my cup of tea. I can't and won't buy a DJ because my father already owns one and eventually I'll get it. So, thats another reason. |

I've owned several Subs over the years. It's one of those watches everyone says you should love but for some reason I never did.

I've had some of the same sentiments before with a Sub also.
I've always loved the Submariner and I had my heart set on getting one one day. I always loved looking at Steve McQueen's Sub in older pics of my idol. Recently I went to my AD to try on the SS Sub C. Although it sat perfectly on my wrist and felt so comfortable, it did not look right with my skin tone and clashed with my YG wedding ring. The salesman suggested I try the TT Sub C with black dial and it was an instant match. I've been more than content with my purchase ever since. It's funny because the SS was amazing in pix but not on me, the TT didn't interest me at all but looked right on my wrist. |

I think the WG blue sub is beautiful as well. Tried one one just for fun, and it was way to shiny or something for me. As a lot of people have said, try vintage. I checked out an early 16610 with light patina and I loved the look. It just felt right. When I saw a pic, I almost didn't bother having him bring it in because the markers weren't bright white. Tried it on though and I think that's what I will be looking for for my first - and early 16610. Happy hunting!

Buying a Rolex is like finding the right pair of Jeans...they are all Jeans but there are so many different styles and cuts that you have to try them on to get a feel of which one fits you just right and fits your style and personality.
Only then will you KNOW for sure that's the ONE!

The Sub, any version, newer or vintage, is the classic Rolex. If it appeals to you at all, and you buy any other model, there will be a little doubt that you will not be able to completely shake and you will eventually have to yield to it and get yourself a Sub. Trust me. Been there.

Always wanted a Sub no date and had only ever seen pictures of a 14060M before buying (though did a lot of research and question asking first).
I have to say it has exceeded all my expectations. It's my only Rolex and I'm happy :-) |

Went back to the AD today since they called that they had a no-date sub.
I definitely like this better than the blue/white gold one but the dial still looks so petite. Can someone explain to me if it is possible to get the sub with a maxi dial, I thought this was the case but the sales guy told me there is just 1 dial size? Thanks |

I am really surprised that you like it in photos and not on the wrist....but if thats the way you feel, dont force. Move on....different strokes.
Personally, I think the subs, especially white gold, are even more amazing on. |

I have a few vintage subs, some w date and some w out. I love the clean look of the older non date 5513 models. I have the green dial sub and a yellow gold sub. I have not tried on the new model non date but would like to give it a go....
I agree w lots of the other posts. Take your time.... One of them w stand out for you. A Sub my humble opinion is an iconic wrist watch..... Best of luck w the hunt.... |

Datejust II 41mm
It sounds like you would be more at home with the GMTIIc.
Have you tried the new datejust 41mm? These things look bad ass.
