Rolex 116619 or Patek 5711?
So I have been looking a lot lately at patek's and love the 5711 among other references. Although once I got over the hefty price tag for a steel watch I looked again at the white gold sub 116619, which when I first got into watches I thought would always be out of my reach. I have had a 16610 and the new 114060 but fliped them in the end because they were to common for me. The white gold sub though is anything but common. So I am having a little trouble deciding which way to go. They both have there pros. I have a good idea what the fine people here on the rolex forums will pick, I would also like to hear from the people that have both or own one or the other. I really want to add a patek to my collection but its hard to ignore the sub at the same price give or take. So what say you?

Well I just got my 5711 in white and I am thrilled. I would not compare a Sub to the 5711 no matter what metal it is in.

Oh boy tough call. I think most watch guys would say the 5711. But I'm sure the appeal to owning WG must be pretty strong. Really you can't go wrong with either. In terms of long term value IMO the 5711 will always perform better. If your choice is not resale value based then go for whichever sings to you.
Good luck as both watches are beautiful. |

I own both and they're keepers so would recommend getting both eventually. However I'd get the 5711 first as its harder to find and/or get a discount.
Having said that the 116619 is the better everyday watch. If you're only going to own one watch, get the Sub first, then the 5711. |

I had a Nautilus 3800. Not as accurate as my Sub. Annoyed that Patek requires annual service to guarantee water resistance! Patek comfortable but fragile. Scratches very readily. Too much force pulling on stem to set watch and crown comes completely out! I would vote for Sub in everything but potential resale value.

B) Rolex recommends an annual water resistance check as well. C) My PPs have been as durable as any Rolex. However they were never designed to climb mountains or plunge to the deepest depths. Pick the right tool for the job. D) All watches, other than ceramic, scratch easily. We live with it. E) The stem on some of my Rolexes and APs have come out. Just have to be careful. |

I would go for 5711, if not too "common" for you that is...

I have tried both of them on at my AD and I couldn't imagine picking the Sub.

Haha. No I don't think so. I love the submariner it's just that I litlerly see them where ever I go. I don't think I would run in to that with the 116619 or 5711. But don't get me wrong the sub is great and it's what got me into watches

My vote is for the 5711. If you want something a little less common then the PP is for you. I love mine but I'm also interested in the WG sub. Actually, I'm going to take a look at it at my AD later today.

Wow. Lots of love for patek here. I figured it would be for the sub. Thanks for all your comments and pics!

Well depends upon your lifestyle.
Do you like sporty things, wear short/flip flops, casual in general? I'd go WG Sub all day. It's a watch that you can also dress up with a suit and be fine. The 5711 (to me--and you have to try it yourself) is too small. However, it does make a nice dressier watch (even though it's a Naut) over the Sub. Again comes down to your lifestyle--not ours. Because for me, I'd get the WG Sub first, then a 5711--but that fits when/where/how I wear watches. The question wasn't which brand or watch is better, but rather which would I buy now. Just my .02. |

Rolex for me. I have owned both but now just have the sub. I tended to baby the Patek but never worried about the Rolex.

Both are sweet but nothing says "what's up" better than an 18k yellow gold sub!
