Are SS/18K making a come back?
Are the Datejusts, Subs and GMTs in steel and gold becoming more popular?

I think gold seems to be becoming more popular, not only on the forums but seen it increasingly with celebs, sports stars etc, just natural upgrading progression if you stay in this hobby long enough.

TT has always been here, along side SS and solid precious metals.

I've always liked TT watches and rings (don't wear much other jewelry). I don't know that it ever went out of fashion. Perhaps in a general sense it did, but not in regard to Rolex. Keep in mind that Rolex is not really in the business of following fashion trends, and neither are its owners who tend to wear something more because they like it.
But first you have to like gold, and second you have to be able to afford it. For those who don't even need to blink at the price of a full gold model, most will just go that way. So TT has always been a niche in the middle of the market. But it's probably been a pretty consistent niche, just a smaller one.

It's odd as last year both gold and TT showed big gains, the former eclipsing the later at 20% and 5% YoY respectively, though as a total percentage of exports precious-metal (solid gold or platinum) came in at 2% of total, gold/steel at 5%, and steel at 52%. Still, 20% gain was quite large, maybe the big run-up in gold prices last year and fall off this year had something to do with it.... Anyway, who cares? If you like it, go for it. You can get better deals on them as % of MSRP than the SS models, and they look sharp.

Oh god, please no...
I hope the majority of Rolex buyers loathe TT and look down upon anyone who dares have a TT. I'm looking to get a TT Daytona in a few years (just got an EXP I) and the last thing I need on top of Daytona madness is a resurgence in TT! |

I think TT watches are great. They can be sporty and yet dressy, equally good with a tuxedo or a polo and jeans. Still, there are times when SS is a better match, and that new blue/black GMT looks mighty good.

I don't know? I love the TT but I had a 16613 bluesey that I was trying to flip and I hard a hard time getting the money I wanted for it. It was an f serial box/papers great condition so I was asking in the $5500 range and pretty much everywhere I went I got the if it was SS I'd buy it on the spot. Eventually I traded it in at my ad for an 8500 po straight up.

The TT 16613 was my grail for nearly 10 years, but after my divorce I never really wore any gold, so I sadly flipped it. I drool every time I see a nice pic like the one above, though.

I love TT it goes well with any jewelry, and I love the contrast. I dont think TT ever went out of style, Rolex still sells it and has sold it for a very long time.
