Rolex Air-King date polo dial

Hi everyone,

I was on a flight today and (as usual) I look at other passengers wrists......to see something interesting.....and it wasn't looking long
before I saw this beautiful Air-King date with a polo dial. I complimented the gentleman on the watch and started a small chat.

I have not see one like this before and I asked him about the watch, what's the story of the dial etc.
It turned out that it was his father's watch. A valuable possession as his father passed away many years ago.
I asked him if he had any ideea how his father came to own this watch. He told
me that his late father went to Victoria College in Egypt at the same time King Hussein of Jordan attended it. His father played polo and the story goes that King Hussein gifted him the watch years later at a polo game. It's the story he got from his family but cannot verify it.
He realised that I'm a sort of watch fanatic and allowed me to take photos and ask me to try to find out more about his watch if possible. We exchanged emails.

I know the general reluctance about these "special" Rolex dials. I'm no expert but first impression the dial looked pretty legit to me.
I googled it and funny enough there is one for sale on ebay. Anyone knows more about these dials?

I've seen a few of these Air King Dates with the polo player. In my opinion, these Polo Air King Dates have no connection with the King of Jordan. It was probably commissioned by some Polo league/association in the 70s.

Perhaps the King had one and gave it to him.

Thanks for your input. It might be the case.
Maybe some of these got to the Middle East polo teams.
It is known that King Hussein was a polo enthusiast and attended polo games many times.
